Section 504 Plans
Section 504 of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guarantees equal access for all disabled persons. These protections are all encompassing and flow into our schools for our students who have a qualifying medical condition and school based needs. In Pennsylvania, PA School Code, Chapter 15 reaffirms those protections given under Section 504 of the ADA. AGSD School Counselors case-manage and provide oversight to our students who are served by a Section 504 Plan.
Specifically, Section 504 states that "no qualified individual with a disability in the United States shall be excluded from, denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under" any program or activity that either receives Federal financial assistance or is conducted by any Executive agency or the United States Postal Service.
