All Avon Grove Schools will be dismissed early on Friday, March 30. Dismissal times for PLE and AGI are as follows:

*Students will come in at the regular time (including AM Kindergarten.)

*AM Kindergarten is dismissed at 10:30.

*Bus pickup for PM Kindergarten begins at 10:30 with class beginning at 11:00.

*All students are dismissed at 1:05.

*Lunch will be served to first and second grade on an earlier schedule.

3-8-07The artwork of several of our PLE district finalists received 1st through 5th place honors in the National PTA Reflections Program and will be forwarded to be viewed against statewide artwork this spring! PLE visual arts submissions received an impressive four of the five top awards in that category. District finalists will receive an invitation shortly to be recognized at a district-wide art show and ceremony in April. Please join the Reflections Committee in congratulating our students. April is National Poetry Month. In honor of this celebration, The Avon Grove Sun is announcing its Second Annual Avon Grove Sun Poetry Contest for children in area schools as well as adults. One poem per contestant will be accepted from each applicant. Each poem must be accompanied by a completed Avon Grove Sun Poetry Contest entry form and submitted by midnight, March 24, 2007. Entries should be mailed or hand delivered. E-mails and/or faxed entries will not be accepted. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the Avon Grove Sun at 610-444-6590 and ask for J.D. Samuel.

Forms for the children’s entries are available in the PLE office for you to mail to: Avon Grove Sun, Poetry Contest, Attention: J.D. Samuel, 112 East State Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348. You may also hand deliver your child’s and/ or your entry to their office in Kennett Square.

3-15-07In March we celebrate the music in our schools. On Thursday, March 21 st all children will come to the Little Theatre during their “specials” time. One of our parents, Mr. Cecere, who leads a local band, will offer music for everyone. The students will get to know rhythmic and melodic parts to music making.

We are gathering input from parents, teachers, and students. 3-9-07 Bookmarks for the Blue Rocks are due on Monday, March 12th. (Please note that some classrooms are completing the bookmarks in school.)

3-1-07 PTA's book fair will be held next week, March 5-9. The hours for the fair are: Monday and Tuesday, 8:30 AM-11:00 AM and 12:30-3:00 PM, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30-11:00 AM and 5:00-8:00 PM, and Friday, 8:30 AM-3:30 PM. Parents may accompany their kindergarten student to the fair during the times listed above, as kindergarten will not go as a class, and students may not be pulled from class to attend. The fair will be open during conference, so stop in and browse when you come in!

Registration for the 2007-2008 school year will be held the week of March 5, 2007. Please call the office after February 5th to request a registration packet which will include registration requirements as well as specific dates and times. Eligibility as per Avon Grove School District Board Policy No. 201, Title 22, Sec. 11.14 states "A child is eligible for admission to kindergarten if s/he has attained the age of five (5) years on or before September 8th of each school term." Title 22, Sec. 11.15 states "A beginner (grade 1) is elibible for admission to the lowest grade of the primary school above the kindergarten level if s/he has attained the age of six (6) years on or before September 8th of each school term."

Registration Hours:

Monday, March 5 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. -2:30 P.m.

Tuesday, March 6 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. -2:30 P.m.

Wednesday and Thursday, March 7 and 8 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 5:00-8:00 p.m.

Friday, March 9 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. -3:30 P.m.

2-20-07 Detective Ron Calarese & Detective Joe Walton from the Chester County District Attorney's Office will give a presentation on Internet/online safety at the Board of School Directors' meeting on Thursday, March 8. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Avon Grove Intermediate School Audion.

2-20-07 On Friday, March 2^nd Penn London will celebrate the anniversary of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, as well as the 50^th anniversary of The Cat in the Hat.  Special activities will be taking place in each family during the day.  Additionally, students are invited to dress as their favorite Dr. Seuss character.  It will be great fun to celebrate the life and work of this well-loved and wonderful children’s book author!

2-12-07 The Avon Grove School District Board of School Directors voted unanimously Feb. 8 to approve the 2007-2008 Preliminary Budget, with no increase in real estate taxes. The Board is scheduled to consider adoption of the 2007-2008 Final Budget on June 14, 2007.
