FROM THE NURSES

12-18-2009 The weather has turned colder, so please remember to send your child dressed appropriately for a 40 minute recess. Weather permitting, students go outside every day. We are seeing numerous children coming to us asking to borrow coats, hats, and gloves, and we do not always have enough.

PARENT DROP OFF

12-18-2009

Parents who drop your children off in the morning, please be aware that the staff is outside to assist your child out of your car until 8:30 AM. After that time, your child is considered late. After the staff has left the parent drop off area, it is your responsibility to park and bring the child into the office and sign your child in. Please do not allow your child to get out of your car and enter the building on their own.

You must wait until your vehicle is at the front of the line and the school staff is there to assist your child. NEVER bypass the drop off line or pass other vehicles waiting in line. Thank you for helping us put our students' safety first.

Chester County Health Department Announces Dates for H1N1 Vaccination Clinics

11-19-2009

Appointment-only vaccinations to be allocated to Tier One (most vulnerable) residents on November 23-25, 2009

The Chester County Health Department has been notified that approximately 5,300 doses of H1N1 vaccine will be sent from the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PADoH) to begin the inoculation of Chester County’s most vulnerable “Tier 1” residents. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) classifies Tier 1 as pregnant women, caregivers of children younger than six months of age, health care and emergency medical services personnel, anyone age 3 years through 24 years of age, (we are not scheduling appointments for children age 6 months to 3 years at this time), and persons aged 25 to 64 who have underlying health conditions associated with higher risk of medical complications from influenza, such as weakened immune systems and cancer.

The Chester County Health Department will administer this free vaccine to Tier 1 persons through its normal clinic appointment program at the Health Department's 601 Westtown Road location in West Chester. Appointments will be available on a “first requested, first served” basis from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on November 23 and 24, and 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on November 25, 2009. As the vaccine supply is limited at this time, only people with appointments will be served during these dates.

Impact of State Budget Impasse on AGSD

8-20-2009 Although we are dealing with some uncertainties regarding the state budget and the level of state funding Avon Grove will receive for 2009-2010, our school community remains focused on our vision to help all students achieve individual excellence. Our primary goal is to continue to provide a challenging and engaging educational experience for our students each day. While we wait for the state budget to be finalized, the District has taken steps to temporarily maintain several instructional positions as well as add several teaching positions to support class size reduction. We also continue to monitor district expenditures. We are prepared to welcome students and start the new school year on August 31. We look forward to partnering with our parents and community for another successful school year. As more information becomes available on the state budget, we will share updates with our parents and school community.
