TRANSPORTATION
We have received notice from our transportation department that we may now issue bus passes, with the exception of bus 63, which is at capacity.
Effective immediately… when writing a note for a bus pass allowing your
child to go home with a friend, we must have a note from both parents. In addition,
please provide the name, address, and phone number of the person who will be
responsible for your child in every request for a bus pass. Please do not fax,
e mail, or phone requests, as they may not be honored. This is for the safety
of your children. Thank you.
It is very important that you give your child a written note each day that he/she will not be riding the bus home. The note serves as their “ticket” to be picked up or to go to another area of the building at dismissal time.

The Avon Grove School District wants all children to feel safe while in the school environment. The bus ride to and from school is an important part of your child’s school day. Everyone at Penn London Elementary School is working toward safety on the bus. We would like to invite you to join us in the current endeavor to improve behavior and safety on the bus. We make every effort to load and unload the children in a safe manner. The bus drivers do a wonderful job of transporting the children to and from school safely. By following the bus safety rules, your child can do his or her part toward making the ride a more safe and pleasant one for everyone.
As the new school year is just getting under way, we ask you to take the time to review the bus safety rules with your child. Please encourage your child to follow the rules for their own safety and for the safety of everyone on the bus. Of particular importance are the rules requiring children to obey the bus driver, be courteous to other students, stay in their seats, keep hands and feet to themselves, and to refrain from being loud. If every child did his/her best to follow these rules, it would help tremendously to create a more enjoyable atmosphere on the bus! For your convenience, the rules for Bus Behavior are included below. For a more detailed description of Bus Transportation, Bus Behavior and Bus Discipline, please consult the Student and Parent Handbook.
Thank you very much for your contribution towards bus safety!
Students must arrive 10 minutes prior to their scheduled
pick up time. Others are depending on the bus to keep its schedule.
Always conduct yourself in an orderly manner.
Wait OFF the highway, out of the way of traffic.
Do not play games or chase anyone. Someone may run out into the street or highway
in front of traffic.
Be sure the road is clear and wait for the driver’s signal before you
cross the road.
After the bus comes to a complete stop, get on the bus promptly, with no pushing
and shoving. Take your seat immediately upon entering the bus.
Students must obey the driver. Be courteous to him/her
and to fellow students. The driver is in full charge of the bus and the students.
The driver has the authority to assign seats to maintain discipline.
Students must be seated before the bus can move and remain seated while the
bus is in motion. Do not stand at anytime when the bus is moving.
School buses are designed to accommodate three students to a seat. Students
are to leave room for a third person if necessary.
Students are not to put arms, hands, legs or any other part of the body out
of the window.
Students are not to throw anything in the bus or out the windows.
Students are not permitted to eat, drink or smoke on the bus, or transport large
objects or animals.
Students are to refrain from being loud or using abusive or vulgar language
on the bus.
Students should be courteous, cooperative and help keep the bus neat and clean.
They must NOT tamper with or abuse equipment.
Ride only on your assigned bus and get off only at your assigned stop. Any change
form the assigned bus or bus stop will be permitted only if the student has
a bus pass form the school office. Bus passes are permitted only if space is
available on the bus.
10. NO animals or weapons are allowed on the bus.
Riding the school bus is a privilege. A student who does not respect the rights of others endangers his/her life and the lives of others. The student will be disciplined. (See Bus Discipline). Major discipline infractions (those that could result in physical harm to passengers or drivers or destruction of property, i.e. smoking, striking matches, improper opening of doors, throwing objects, fighting, standing, changing seats, etc.) may result in the suspension of bus privileges and charges for damages.
