WHERE IN THE WORLD IS COCOA THE TRAVELING DOG?

Is your family going on a trip far away or planning a special weekend activity at home? Our stuffed dog, Cocoa, would love to go along!

While you are on your trip, your child can collect tickets, take photographs, make a drawing, grab a small menu, keep a journal, or any number of other activities to make one or more scrapbook pages of the dog's journey with your family.

Be creative! Your child will have a wonderful learning experience, and we will use the traveling dog's journeys to learn about
geography, atlases, and map and globe skills in the library. We have learned about elections by voting for the dog's name.

Send an email to kbelknap@avongrove.org or send a note to the library to reserve one of our ten dogs to take on the trip.

Please include the dates of your trip so we can arrange for you or your child to pick up the little passenger from our library before you leave.

You and your child can create the scrapbook pages at home using 12” x 12” pages or have your child bring an envelope of items to create his or her page with me here at school. Have fun!

Authors and Illustrators on the Web

The Internet has become a great source of information about a great many children's writers and illustrators. The websites listed here include authors' personal websites and websites maintained by fans, scholars, and readers.

If you don't find an author here, you might want to try some other Internet sources of information about authors and books. Bear in mind though that if you can't find anything about the author online, you may still be able to find something in a library.

• Destiny is web-based so it can be used from any Internet connected computer.
• Destiny shows books available at all of our district schools.
• Destiny is image-rich. The book cover is pictured in the search list.
• Look for "Web Path Express" once you select a book. There is a link for that connects the reader to pre-selected, teacher approved, grade
  leveled Web pages that
  correspond to the subject of the book that the reader
  selected.
• Destiny makes suggestions of other subjects that are
  related to the book selected. A direct link takes the reader to a new list of options.
• Destiny allows the user to make a booklist of book
  selections.
• Destiny creates a bibliography from a booklist with a touch of one button.
