PLE ART

Mrs. Shiley's Website

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Penn London Art Department is pleased to announce the theme for it’s sixth annual celebration of March as Youth Art Month (YAM). In response to many requests, and for the first time ever, kindergarten students are asked to share the fun! We will be joining thousands of schools across our nation in commemoration of the national celebration. This observance is in recognition of the contribution made by Visual Arts to the total education of our children.
Your family’s participation is requested in our YAM 2008 project. “The Olympic PANDAmonium” is this year’s theme. Our perfect panda’s will perform amazing Olympic activities among the bamboo shoots throughout the halls of our school during the month of March. Please be a part of this event by preparing a YAM panda with your child/children.
In addition to this letter your student will come home with a tag-board panda cutout. To assist your family, there are some suggestions on the back of the letter. Hopefully, these ideas will help you know how to present your panda as you attempt to pick up on your panda’s personality.
Pick a night, or weekend to get together and create your panda. Pencil in the date to get it finished prior to the due date of Monday MARCH 3rd 2008. Pace yourselves and pack the panda pattern with paint, paste, or pasta, and pile on plenty of pint-size patterns. Picture what you could do to your puffy panda shape to portray your family’s panda-athlete.
Put whatever you want on your panda to capture its essence, but please remember-permanent items only! Protect your panda by using non-edible items that will not spoil. FOOD ITEMS THAT SPOIL MAY GET YOUR PANDA quarantined!! Finally, using your best penmanship, post your name on the front along with your child’s name, family color, and room number. Then race, ski, skate, or swim their bodies back to the art room bamboo stadium, so we can pin-up your pandas in Penn London’s bamboo forest.
Your plump plucky pandas will be on display at Penn London during the month of March. So please get your passport to Beijing and come see the Panda in the opening ceremonies at Penn London during Conferences.

Olympically yours,
Mrs. Shiley
