Parent Action Committee (PAC)

In the Avon Grove School District parental involvement is highly encouraged! One of the ways for families to become involved in the Avon Grove High School is to be a part of our Parent Action Committee (PAC).
Our biggest event is putting together the After-Prom event which takes place after the AGHS Senior Prom. All Juniors and Seniors are invited regardless if they go to their prom. This event is huge and requires more than 50 volunteers to plan, set-up, run, and clean-up.
We also coordinate teacher appreciation events collaborate with school administrators to help improve student experience.
Our mission is to make AGHS a better place by: promoting school spirit, supporting student activities, encouraging parent/guardian volunteerism, raising funds for the benefit of the school and providing a forum for parents to discuss issues as needed.

 AFTER PROM

The AGHS Senior Prom is on Friday, June 2nd. The highly-acclaimed After-Prom party will take place at the AGHS and it requires close to 50 volunteers to make the event a safe and successful event for the Juniors and Seniors and their guests.

We are still need volunteers to join the planning committee and to help oversee specific tasks.

  • Do you like crafts/decorating?
  • Are you someone who is organized and likes to work on project specific tasks?
  • Do you enjoy seeing excitment and joy in the faces of the students (well I think we all do)?

These are just a few of the roles we are looking for. Please email us if you are willing to lend a hand (or two). Our email is: aghighschoolpac@gmail.com.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 15. We are a friendly group and we welcome you to the Parent Action Committee.

Thank you in advance for volunteering.

UPDATES - April 2021

Class of 2021 Celebrations

PayPal Link

The biggest event planned by the AGHS PAC is the AfterProm which typically occurs in the hours following the Senior Prom.  Due to the restrictions currently in place, we are not permitted o hold the traditional AfterProm event in 2021 but will celebrate our Seniors in alternate ways.

As we did last year, the AGHS PAC is busy discussing ways to celebrate our Seniors.  We will be providing the AGHS Class of 2021 with various special gifts. This Senior Class lost out on so many typical Senior Events but they need to know what they mean to our community. Many of you reached out to offer support for the many things the PAC does and for that, THANK YOU.  In order to make this happen, we need your help. If you are interested in making a donation towards the Celebrations of the Class of 2021 please click on the link below.

 PAC UPDATES

9/14/2020

I wanted to thank everyone who attended our first meeting in August and all those who couldn't make it but reached out via email.  I apologize this recap is a little delayed but the days got the best of me!

Our first meeting was chock full of good information and for those of you who are new to the school, during our PAC meetings, Mr DeShong will give a brief overview of what is happening in the school and this month it was a lot!  We were also joined by our new Dean of Students and Senior Class Advisor Mrs. Penn as well our new Director of Athletics & Activities, Mr. Christy.

Mr. DeShong explained that the fall PSAT date will be moving to a winter administration (1/26/21) which will be available to all Sophomores and Juniors.  He also mentioned the school initiated the process of administering SATs during the School Day test dates of 9/23 and 10/14.

Homecoming which is the biggest fundraiser for our sports and clubs will be moved to the Spring 2021 - more information to follow.  Mrs. Penn also mentioned she would like to have a PAC representative from each grade to be a parent liaison and attend meetings with the Class Officers. Currently we are still looking for a representative for the Sophomore and Junior Classes.  If you are interested, please let us know.

The future state of the PAC was discussed as all of our officers have either a Junior or Senior,  so if you are interested in learning about any of the positions, please reach out.  We were also advised that the GIANT A+ Rewards program is being discontinued, and to those of you not familiar with this program, it has earned over $10,000 for the High School annually over the past few years.  These funds have been used by the administration to support various programs and most recently furnished the Senior Courtyard in May 2019.  Mr. DeShong has also allocated part of this money to be used for AfterProm and the loss of this large donation will have a serious impact on our AfterProm budget moving forward.  Over the past few years our Food Truck fundraiser (the only one solely for the PAC) did not generate a lot of interest so we need to think of new ways to raise money in order to cover our operational costs and the small projects we have funded in the past like the door decals, lobby renovation, Stadium/Building Flags.  While we may be OK for the 20-21 school year, we really need to think of new and exciting ways to generate support especially as we move into the new building as I am sure there will be lots we would like to support once it opens.  ALL ideas are welcome and if you want to take the lead on any project - even better!

Unfortunately as we were not allowed in the building, and there were numerous restrictions we were not able to welcome back our teachers in our traditional way.  We would still like to do something to show our appreciation and would like to coordinate it with the return of the students to the building.  One idea was a t-shirt for every staff member which would be about $5 each and would require some fundraising but we are open for other suggestions.

Finally, I did hear back from the Class Officers and they loved the idea of a mask fundraiser, (ideally using the blue tie-dye for the seniors) but if we could come up with another option for the other classes this may be something to look into as well.

That about sums up everything that was discussed, but if you have any questions, please let us know.

AfterProm is Friday 5/21/21 from 11:00PM-3:00AM so if you know anyone who is hoping to volunteer it's never too early to start working on your clearances.

Thank you all and we hope to see you tomorrow night!

 Greetings AGHS Families!!!

We hope everyone had an enjoyable summer. We would be remiss if we didn't start off by saying thank you for all of the support we received as we closed out the 19-20 school year.  The year end celebrations would not have been the same without your help.  We also want to say a warm welcome to the parents of the Class of 2024, please be sure to join us at our monthly meetings or follow us on Facebook to learn more about what’s going on at the High School and the many ways you can help.

This school year may be starting off a little differently but we still have work to be done to make this year a great one for our AGHS students. On Wednesday, 8/19, the Parent Action Committee will be hosting our first meeting of the 20-21 school year.  Until further notice all PAC and AfterProm meetings will be held via Zoom due to the current restrictions in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  We will put the Zoom link on our PAC website located under the parents page of the district website, (https://www.avongrove.org/parents) and on our Facebook page (Avon Grove High School Parent Action Committee).

Come join as we begin to plan for this year.  Immediately following this month’s PAC meeting we will be having our first AfterProm meeting of the year.  Senior Prom is currently scheduled for 5/21 so we have just over 9 months to plan for another awesome event!

Please mark your calendars with this year’s meeting dates:

If you are interested in receiving email updates and want learn more about ways to volunteer but cannot attend the meeting please email us at aghighschoolpac@gmail.com

Thank you and we look forward to a fantastic year!
