News and Events

Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year from the PTO President!

August 24, 2010

As parents and/or teachers of FSEMS students, you are all members of the PTO, with no dues or membership fees.  Please come to a brief meeting at 6:45 on Back-to-School Night to hear more about our programs and what we do.  I invite you to become involved in the PTO – check out our volunteer signup sheets at Take-A-Look and Back-to-School Night.  The FSEMS PTO and I look forward to working with you to benefit all of the students at FSEMS!

                                        Peggy Bell-Cole, President   (610-869-2337 or bellcole@verizon.net)

Volunteers needed!

August 24, 2010

There are many ways you can get involved in your child’s school – most programs just need a one-time commitment, others might need a periodic, ongoing commitment. Whatever you are able to do helps not only your child, but all of the students at FSEMS! Signup sheets will be available at Take-A-Look and Back-to-School night, or you can contact the committee chairs directly for the following: Basketball Fundraiser, Bookfairs, luncheons, and the School Store.

College Team Spirit Wear

August 24, 2010

We will be offering T-shirts for sale with each team’s college name in September. Check them out in the lobby at Take-A-Look and Back-to-School night!

Restaurant Coupon Sale is coming

August 24, 2010

From October 4th – 15th, students will be selling $6.00 coupons good for $6.00 worth of food at several local establishments, including: Marrone’s Deli (West Grove) Prima’s Pizza & Pasta (Hockessin) Mi Cocina Mexicana (Jennersville) Dairy Queen (Jennersville) Penn Brew Station (West Grove) to name a few. This is our biggest fundraiser, and a “free” way for families to support the efforts of the PTO while making purchases at local eateries (the restaurants provide the profits). Contact Peggy Bell-Cole at 610-869-2337 or email at bellcole@verizon.net for more information.

Did You Know...

Meetings

All parents of Fred S. Engle students are automatically PTO members. Parental involvement is key to a child’s success. Research reports, however, show that for most parents the urge to volunteer ends when their child enters middle school. That is just when the children need it most! Our monthly meetings are held at the school in Conference Room A, and times are listed below. Please come out and share your ideas and/or concerns. We look forward to meeting you!

Programs

Basketball Fundraiser

You won’t want to miss this entertaining evening of basketball with the FSE Faculty taking on the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams!  This fun event is sponsored jointly by the FSE faculty and the PTO.  This is the largest fundraiser for the student activities fund, which is used to support student programs. Concessions will be offered both before and during the game.  We will have pizza, hot dogs, pretzels, chips and baked goods.

Parent Volunteers are needed to help with the basket preview days for the students, as well as helping with the baskets and concessions the night of the event. For more information or to volunteer contact Jennifer Martin at 610-345-9145 (martin626@verizon.net).

Book Fair

We host a Scholastic Book Fair in the fall and spring as a great way to get everyone excited about reading.  This is also a minor fundraiser for us as well.  Each student has an opportunity to shop during one of their language arts classes and parents are able to do some shopping during parent/teacher conferences. Parent volunteers are needed to help out during the sale, anywhere from one hour to as many as you can give.

Box Tops for Education

The PTO coordinates the General Mills Box Tops for Education program for the school. We collect the Boxtop cutouts which are located on such products as Pillsbury, Hefty, Ziploc, Kimberly Clark Products and of course General Mills cereal boxes. They in turn reimburse us 10 cents for each cutout. While this doesn’t sound like much, it adds up! In the 2009/2010 school year, we made over $1400! It’s an easy and free way to help out the school!

Each homeroom has a collection box for your student to drop the box tops in.  There is also a collection box in the office – just be sure to put them in an envelope with your student’s homeroom name since there will be a contest for the top homerooms in each grade.

If you shop online, the Box Tops program also offers reimbursements to the school for your purchases. You must first go to www.BTFE.com to register. Up to 8% of each qualifying purchase is donated to our school! Also, if you shop at Target, you can designate FSEMS as recipient in Target’s Take Charge of Education program.

Hershey Park Tickets

We sell discounted tickets to Hershey Park in the spring as a cost savings opportunity for the parents. Look for more information on our web page coming out in March.

Luncheons

We host a Holiday Staff Luncheon in December and a Staff Appreciation Luncheon in the spring as our way of showing the staff how much we appreciate all that they do!  Homemade dishes and goodies are sent in from parent volunteers.

Student Motivators

The PTO supports the FSE reading goals by providing motivators to support the students reaching their reading goals.  More information to follow as this updated program is rolled out.

Restaurant Coupon Sale

In the fall we have our major fundraiser of the year selling restaurant coupons. The parents buy the coupons, good at several local establishments, and use them for full value as if they were cash. The restaurants agree to only partial reimbursement of the coupons from the PTO, thus providing our profit. The top-selling homeroom from each grade gets some type of party, and top-selling students also get some type of reward. Contact Peggy Bell-Cole at 610-869-2337 or email at bellcole@verizon.net for more information.
