News and EventsStudent/Faculty Basketball Fundraiser GameFebruary 2, 2012
You won’t want to miss this entertaining evening of basketball with the FSE Faculty taking on the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams! This fun event is sponsored jointly by the FSE faculty and the PTO. This is the largest fundraiser during the school year designed to benefit Engle Middle School's various student programs. Bring your families to enjoy this exciting event on Thursday, March 8th. Doors open at 5:30 and the game begins at 6:45. Tickets are $3 in advance and will be sold during 8th period during the two weeks prior to the event, and $4 at the door. Concessions will be offered both before and during the game. We will have pizza, hot dogs, pretzels, chips and baked goods. In addition to the game, wonderful themed classroom baskets will be raffled. Chances are .50 each or 12 for $5. T-shirts will also available for $10. You should already have information about your child's homeroom basket theme with a request for donations. If not, be sure to ask your son or daughter or contact Jennifer Donten at mjdonten@yahoo.com or 484-371-8011. Parent Volunteers are needed to help with Student Basket Preview Days on Monday, March 5th at various times, and on Mar. 6th & 7th during 8th period. Additionally, volunteers are needed the night of the event to help with classroom baskets, supervision and concession sales. Donations of baked goods to be sold at concessions are also needed. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Lisa Osborne at osbofamily@aol.com or 610-274-8190. Also, if you are interested in placing an ad or shout-out in the basketball program, contact Julie DiVittorio at jadivittorio@gmail.com. Giant Foods A+ Rewards ProgramFebruary 2, 2012
We are now registered in the Giant Foods A+ Rewards Program. To register your bonus card and help Engle Middle School earn points during the year, please click here. It’s easy and a great way to earn money for our school – so far this year we’ve earned over $2400 Get Your Target Red Card and FSE Will Make Money!February 2, 2012
Did you know that Target has added an incentive to their credit card - 5% off on all purchases? Did you know that they will donate up to 1% of your purchases made on the Red Card to our school? Well, now you do know, so be sure to designate FS Engle as the designee for the Target "Take Charge of Education" program! Last year we earned just $78, but with the new Christiana Mall store opened we can surely top that! Interested in Volunteering at FSE?February 2, 2012
The school is always looking for volunteers with current clearances to help out during the school day with a variety of tasks ranging from homework help, to lunchtime help, to monitoring students as they clean out their lockers. Please note that you must have current clearances (the FSE office can check yours if you have questions), and that though much of the activity will be during 8th period (1:40 to 2:25), if you are available at other times during the day, you are most welcome to come in. Please email the assistant principal, Mr. Patrick Hogan (phogan@avongrove.org), if you are interested. Though it is likely you will not be placed in your child's classroom, this is a great way to stay connected to the middle school. | PTO Quick LinksCalendar of Events

All parents of Fred S. Engle students are automatically PTO members. Parental involvement is key to a child’s success. Research reports, however, show that for most parents the urge to volunteer ends when their child enters middle school. That is just when the children need it most! Our monthly meetings are held at the school in Conference Room A, and times are listed below. Please come out and share your ideas and/or concerns. We look forward to meeting you!

An annual event, the Basketball Fundraiser is a fun-filled night where the faculty plays the student basketball teams in an entertaining competition. Each classroom puts together a themed basket like those at PLE/AGIS Country Christmas. Tickets are sold as chances and the baskets are raffled off the night of the event. The money raised is shared between the school and the PTO to benefit the kids at FSEMS.
Parent Volunteers are needed in several ways. Basket Coordinators are needed for each homeroom to collect donations and assemble a gift basket, based on the theme that the students & their teacher select. Volunteers are also needed to help oversee the basket preview days for the students, as well as helping with the baskets and concessions the night of the event. For more information or to volunteer contact Lisa Osborne osbofamily@aol.com or 610-274-8190.
We host a Scholastic Book Fair in the fall and spring as a great way to get everyone excited about reading. This is also a minor fundraiser for us as well. Each student has an opportunity to shop during one of their language arts classes and parents are able to do some shopping during parent/teacher conferences. Parent volunteers are needed to help out during the sale, anywhere from one hour to as many as you can give.
The PTO coordinates the General Mills Box Tops for Education program for the school. We collect the Boxtop cutouts which are located on such products as Pillsbury, Hefty, Ziploc, Kimberly Clark Products and of course General Mills cereal boxes. They in turn reimburse us 10 cents for each cutout. While this doesn’t sound like much, it adds up! In the 2010/2011 school year, we made over $1400! It’s an easy and free way to help out the school!
Each homeroom has a collection box for your student to drop the box tops in. There is also a collection box in the office – just be sure to put them in an envelope with your student’s homeroom name since there will be a contest for the top homerooms in each grade.
If you shop online, the Box Tops program also offers reimbursements to the school for your purchases. You must first go to www.boxtops4education.com to register. Up to 8% of each qualifying purchase is donated to our school! Also, if you shop at Target, you can designate FSEMS as recipient in Target’s Take Charge of Education program.
We sell discounted tickets to Hershey Park in the spring as a cost savings opportunity for the parents. Look for more information on our web page coming out in March.
We host a Holiday Staff Luncheon in December and a Staff Appreciation Luncheon in the spring as our way of showing the staff how much we appreciate all that they do! Homemade dishes and goodies are sent in from parent volunteers.
The PTO supports the FSE reading goals by providing motivators to support the students reaching their reading goals. More information to follow as this updated program is rolled out.
In the fall we have our major fundraiser of the year selling restaurant coupons. The parents buy the coupons, good at several local establishments, and use them for full value as if they were cash. The restaurants agree to only partial reimbursement of the coupons from the PTO, thus providing our profit. The top-selling homeroom from each grade gets some type of party, and top-selling students also get some type of reward. Contact Christine Plankinton at Plankinton@msn.com or 610-274-0331 for more information.
The Fred S. Engle Middle School Parent Resource Room is located next to the main office in the front lobby of the building. It is open to parents during school days from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and also during conference times. We encourage parents to take advantage of the many resources we have available that have been funded by our PTO.
