Welcome to the Fred S. Engle Middle School web site.  Engle is a place where over 900 students, 100 faculty and staff members, parents, and community members are committed to excellence.

Learning is not a spectator sport.  Engle students are actively engaged in learning on a daily basis.  Students construct meaning around the big ideas and enduring understandings that will enable them to maintain their learning for the long term.  Just as importantly, Engle emphasizes the creation of 21st century skills in our students, connecting them to their future in our global economy.

A primary reason for the success of Engle students is the teachers they see every day.  The use of best practices in the classroom and alignment to state and local standards are a part of the process.  The teachers at Engle also show each student that she or he has value and that success is possible for every student.  Students learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally through the guidance and assistance of every teacher at Engle.

Students are encouraged to pursue their interests in a variety of ways.  In addition to the curricular opportunities for personal expression through our art cycle classes (art, technology, computers, Spanish, French, music and family and consumer science), Engle also offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities, intramurals, and sports teams.  Students can demonstrate their talents and strengths in all of these areas.  This creates an atmosphere where each student has the chance to be successful in her or his own way at Engle.

The resources available to Engle students include an outstanding library with over 25,000 books, up-to-date periodicals, as well as online and electronic resources.  Technology is a part of every classroom, as each teaching location at Engle has an interactive Smart Board for teacher use.  Several laptop carts and the use of handheld digital technology are also available, connecting student learning to 21st Century skills.

In addition to these tangible resources, Engle students receive support through a variety of other means.  There is an enrichment program, an academically talented program, and an instructional support team to assist students in reaching their academic potential.  To help students struggling with areas other than academics, we have several programs in place to identify those with needs and provide professionals to help them and their families work through issues together.  Throughout all of this is the support available through our guidance and counseling officers.
