Our Mission

The Fred S. Engle Middle School is a community committed to providing an environment, which promotes academic excellence and responsible social interaction.

This will be accomplished by:

Teaching student to develop a knowledge base;
Encouraging students to move toward independent learning;
Providing situations which enable students to learn and practice social interactions;
Challenge students to be the best they can be; and
Soliciting parental and community support.

The Fred S. Engle Middle School, grades 7 and 8, fills the need for a gradual transition from elementary to the high school years. While instruction in fundamental academic skills is stressed, enrichment programs and other activities are included in the curriculum in order to meet the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of the adolescent.

Each team of teachers, consisting of language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science teachers work together on a daily basis with between 90-120 students. The team structure provides a strong foundation for the development of interdisciplinary units, as well as the implementation of cooperative learning strategies. The teachers strive to provide a variety of instructional methods to meet the educational needs of our students. The flexibility of scheduling allows the team teachers to utilize time more effectively in providing instruction.

In meeting the needs of our students, Fred S. Engle Middle School offers a wide variety of programs: physical education and life studies; exploratory courses in music, art, family and consumer science, computer education, career development, Spanish, French and industrial technology; and interscholastic and intramural sports programs. In addition the school offers a Shared Decision Making Team consisting of teachers and administrators who make decisions by consensus in the best interest of the middle school students.

The high degree of professionalism exhibited by the staff, coupled with the enthusiasm and cooperation of our students makes the Middle School the place to be.
