News and EventsCHIP Back to School Flyers are Coming!May 10, 2011 Pennsylvania's Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) covers all uninsured children and teens. No family makes too much money for CHIP because there are no income limits. With nearly 140,000 uninsured children in Pennsylvania and the current economic climate, this is great news for families! Act 153 requires that each Commonwealth school district provide a CHIP notice to the parent or guardian of each student enrolled in the district during the school year.
Your Intermediate Units will be receiving the CHIP flyers at the beginning of May and will work with your school district to be sure you receive enough CHIP flyers to provide to every student. Please include a CHIP flyer with parent packets or other information that is prepared for students to take home at the beginning of next school year (2011-2012) CHIP provides quality, comprehensive health insurance (doctor visits, dental, prescriptions, eye care) for children of working and transitional families who otherwise could not afford it. And CHIP is pleased to partner with school districts in helping families find health insurance coverage. Schools are a valuable partner in this effort. After all, healthy children are better students. If you would like an electronic version of the CHIP flyer, please visit www.CHIPcoversPAkids.com , and click on "CHIP Resources" for Community Partners and School Districts. You can sign up, log-in and find the flyer and a variety of other CHIP materials, such as copies of our brochures, posters and lunch menu to copy for your use. If you have questions, need more copies of the flyer or would like a CHIP representative to visit your school to provide more information to families, please contact Kristen Wolf, CHIP Outreach Coordinator at kwolf@state.pa.us . Over the past year, Pennsylvania has met several significant public health challenges. Working with our schools, health providers and media outlets, we successfully educated citizens on H1N1 and made vaccine available to more than 4 million people. I am asking you to join again in our efforts to educate Pennsylvanians about another epidemic that is impacting the health of our commonwealth – childhood obesity.
