Welcome to the home of the Avon Grove School District’s English Language Arts Program!
The Avon Grove School District is committed to providing a literacy rich environment that meets the diverse needs of all students. The District's Language Arts Program offers a balanced curriculum of purposeful reading, writing, speaking, and listening aligned to the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for English Language Arts. Our goal is for each student to become a lifelong reader and writer.
The Avon Grove School District’s English Language Arts curriculum is developed by classroom teachers of reading and writing, grades K-12, and administrators. The curriculum is grounded upon the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for English Language Arts. The Pennsylvania Standards define English Language Arts as Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening Standards.
The Planned Course Outline for the English Language Arts curriculum is based upon the standard categories. The following information is available on the Planned Course Outline:
- Pennsylvania standards for the core discipline
- Big Idea: Core concepts, principles, theories
- Enduring Understandings: Lasting understandings that involve the big ideas and give meaning to important facts
- Essential Questions: Key questions linked to enduring understandings and assessment
The Planned Course Outlines are broken down into specific plans by grade level at the elementary level and by courses at the secondary level. These more detailed documents include the specific knowledge and skills for each grade level.
