District Highlights Student Achievement Progress

At the September 24 meeting of the Board of School Directors, Avon Grove School District officials gave a progress report on student achievement across all grade levels and highlighted successes, focus areas, and the path forward for meeting academic achievement goals outlined in the District’s 2008-2013 Strategic Plan. >> More.

School Board Resolution on State Budget Impasse
On September 10th, the Avon Grove School Board of Directors passed a Resolution urging the PA General Assembly to approve a 2009-2010 state budget that maintains the Commonwealth's commitment to adequate and equitable basic education funding.

School Menu Prices for 2009-2010

The Avon Grove Board of School Directors approved a 10 percent increase in school lunch prices for 2009-2010 at the June 11 Board meeting. The District last increased student lunch prices in 2004 by about 7 percent. Eligible families can apply for free or reduced-price meals. >> More.

District Launches New Web-based
Parent Communication System

The Avon Grove School District has begun testing its new Web-based parent communication system known as Edulink. The system enables administrators to contact parents by phone to share important Districtwide reminders and news updates, as well as school-specific information. >> More.

The Avon Grove Scholarship Foundation, a charitable nonprofit organization founded in 1984, provides scholarships each year to graduating seniors from Avon Grove High School. To find out more information go to the AG Scholarship Foundation Website.

Fire Prevention Assemblies at PLE
West Grove Fire Company vistied Penn London Elementary School for fire prevention assemblies on October 5 and 6, and presented to fourth- and fifth-graders at AGIS on October 7 and 8.


PLE Teachers and Staff "Go Pink" for the Cure
Teachers, administrators, and staff at Penn London Elementary School raised $407 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation through a “Go Pink” fund-raiser held on October 2. >> More.

Penn London to Celebrate Harvest Day Oct. 30
Harvest Day is an annual celebration held at Penn London in lieu of Halloween. Students are encouraged to dress in farmer’s attire, such as jeans and flannel. Many girls wear braids and cowgirl boots. Boys and girls alike sport jeans, overalls, and straw or felt cowboy hats.

     
   

YoJo Presents Anti-bullying Assemblies at AGIS
The costumed character YoJo and host Chris Bruce presented four anti-bullying assemblies for AGIS students in grades three through six on October 5 and 6. The presentation, titled “Bully No More,” featured role-playing, several short true-false quizzes, and tips on what a student should do if bullied or they see someone else being bullied. Schoolhouse counselors will reinforce the anti-bullying messages and preventative measures with individual classrooms.


Students Meet Summer Reading Challenge

Avon Grove Intermediate School recently recognized 898 students who met the school’s challenge to read at least four books each over the summer break. As part of the challenge, students either completed a worksheet or took an Accelerated Reader (AR) test for each book they read. >> More.

   


Construction Update on Engle Middle School
The 1st of 3 phases of a $10 million repair and replacement project was completed at Fred S. Engle Middle School this past summer, and school opened on time to welcome back students on August 31. To continue to maximize progress and ensure completion of the project prior to the start of the 2010-2011 school year, work on Phases 2 and 3 has begun and will continue throughout the current school year and summer of 2010. >> More.

   

Board Appoints New Assistant Principal at AGHS
At the regular meeting of the Avon Grove School District Board of School Directors on August 13, 2009, the Board appointed Mr. James Connor as an assistant principal at Avon Grove High School. Mr. Connor is scheduled to start on or after August 24, 2009. As assistant principal, he will be responsible for 9 th graders and the athletic program for Avon Grove High School. >> More.

AGHS Seeking Reaccreditation through AFG
Avon Grove High School is currently in the process of seeking accreditation renewal from the Commission on Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association. >> Click here for more information.

Middle States Validation Team to Conduct Accreditation Visit at AGHS in December 2009
A five-member accreditation validation team from the Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools is scheduled to visit Avon Grove High School in December 2009 to determine if the school meets the Commission's Standards for Accreditation. The validation team is scheduled to conduct its evaluation on December 7 (1/2 day), 8, 9 and 10. As part of the process, the Commission will accept and consider comments from individuals with firsthand information regarding the school's ability to meet the 12 standards. >> Click here for more information.
