MULTIAGENCY EMERGENCY DRILL SCHEDULED FRIDAY OCTOBER 10 AT AGHS
West Grove , PA — Local emergency management officials are scheduled to conduct an emergency response drill at Avon Grove High School on Friday, October 10, 2008. The drill will take place in the high school gymnasium between approximately 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. All district schools are closed that day for teacher in-service, and classes will not be in session.
The scenario for the drill involves a simulated bleacher collapse. Several adult volunteers from an outside agency and student volunteers enrolled in the Allied Health Program at the Chester County Technical College High School will be acting as victims in the simulation.
Area emergency services organizations, including several ambulances, are scheduled to respond to the simulated event. A Brandywine Sky FlightCare helicopter is expected to land on and take off from school grounds. Emergency vehicles responding to the drill will not be using sirens.
Emergency responders expected to participate in the drill include: West Grove Fire and Ambulance, Avondale Ambulance, Longwood Medic Unit, Oxford Ambulance, Medic 94, and Chester County Emergency Services. Two school nurses and several school and district representatives will participate. Representatives from the Pennsylvania State Police Avondale Barracks and the Chester County Sheriff’s Department are scheduled to role-play and observe. Several ham radio operators will test equipment. Jennersville Regional Hospital will also participate in the drill, which will involve the transport of one or more people acting as patients in need of medical care.
The emergency drill is being conducted to enable various agencies to practice and assess their response and communications capabilities, hone skills and procedures, and to train additional personnel.
