Two Avon Grove High School Students Advance to State-Level SkillsUSA Competition

Two Avon Grove High School students who recently earned first-place honors at the SkillsUSA district-level competition held in Berks County will go on to compete in April at the state-level competition in Hershey, Pa.

Dominic Martino won 1st place in Related Technical Math and Jade Simcox won 1st place in Extemporaneous Speech at the district SkillsUSA competition, where students performed challenges in a variety of job skills and leadership areas.

SkillsUSA is a national organization for students enrolled in trade, industrial, technical, technology, and health occupation education. The organization helps students develop technical, academic, and employability skills, and offers many opportunities for students to participate in career, technical, civic, recreational, and social activities in addition to the competitions.

The following Avon Grove High School students also earned medals at the district competition: Barry Sydenstricker, 2nd place Collision Repair; and 3rd-place finishers Nelizbet Ayllon, Cosmetology; Ryan Boyd, Computer Maintenance; Kacey Haldaway, Job Skills Demonstration; Stephanie Holcombe, Extemporaneous Speech; Olivia Schenk, Model in Esthetics; and Joshua Young, Esthetics.
