AGHS Junior Places Second in District Internetworking Competition

Avon Grove High School junior John Lettman, who also attends the Computer Information Systems program at Chester County Technical College High School, recently won second place in a district-level Internetworking competition held at Lebanon County Career and Technology Center.

Students from 22 schools in the southeastern Pennsylvania region participated in the contest. The Internetworking contest included three parts: demonstrating networking design, general networking knowledge, and hands-on evaluations.

The networking design problem tested each contestant’s ability to design functionality, scalability, adaptability and manageability of an internetworking system. The online written portion tested students’ complete knowledge of internetworking concepts. The hands-on component required contestants to make cables, trouble shoot network systems, configure routers, switches and servers, and to deliver customer service in a technical assistant center environment.

The contestants had to find errors in a Wide Area Network and Local Area Network; do an Internet Service Provider configuration using routers and switches; talk a technician through an error they are having on their network; and, take an online certification-type test.

The national contest is based on the most current Cisco Certified Network Associate certification.

In today's job market, system administration skills are needed, therefore contestants were scored on the following server skills: Install Domain Name System, create a record, install active directory service, and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol.
