Title I

Read-at-Home

Dear Parent,

The students in grades one and two are required to read each evening as a part of their regular homework. Reading at home gives children an opportunity to practice what they have learned in school. Children love to show others what they have learned to do. Reading with family members can be an enjoyable family time.

Many of you have read to your children from a very young age. Now your child is beginning to learn to read independently. The goal of the Title I staff is to review and reinforce those skills and strategies being taught by the classroom teacher so that your child can become an independent reader.

The Title I Read-at-Home program will be a primary source of books that your child will bring home to read. We will keep a record of the books that are read and provide some small incentives throughout the year.

Please become involved in this program by:

  • Listening to your child read.
  • Reading the book with your child.
  • Reading the book to your child if it is too difficult for independent reading.
  • Talking about the book.
  • SIGNING THE CALENDAR IN THE RAH FOLDER EVERY DAY, MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY.
  • Making sure your child returns the book every day.

Sometimes the same book will come home more than once. It is important for children to reread books to learn sight words and improve fluency.

We wish you a year of delight as you and your child share many moments of storybook adventures! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call. I welcome your calls!

Sincerely,

Kristin Bulgarelli Title I Coordinator & Reading Specialist
