Title I |

Title I is a federally funded program. It originated in 1965 under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The Avon Grove School District annually submits an application to receive Title I funds. These supplemental funds support students who require additional Literacy support at Penn London Elementary School. The Avon Grove School District’s Title I program encourages and invites parents to be actively involved in their child’s education. The Title I program works with parents throughout the school year in a variety of ways. A Back to School night is hosted each September for the parents of Title I students. Throughout the year, Title I parents and students are invited to Title I events where reading strategies are shared with parents and practiced by students. In addition, storytellers, and a variety of other fun activities are part of our Title I events. The Title I Parent Advisory Council updates the Title I Involvement Policy annually. This policy, as well as our Home/School Pledge, shares our plan to foster a strong home and school connection. A Title I resource center is available to parents year round. During the summer months a library of materials and books are available for both Title I students and parents. The Read at Home program is an integral part of Title I. The Read at Home program provides each student an opportunity to practice what they have learned in school with a book that is at their level. Students who read each night in the Read at Home program are highlighted in the monthly Title I newsletter. The Title I coordinator, Kristin Bulgarelli, designs the Title I program and the Literacy instruction for all Title I students. If you have any questions regarding this program or your child’s progress, please reach Mrs. Bulgarelli at 610-869-9803. |
