Physical Education News
Our Physical Education Teachers would like to share their introductory Power Point. This explains rules and procedures for AGI's Physical Education Classes.

News From Our Art Classes
Last school year, the AGIS PTA sponsored an artist-in-residence
project with mosaic mural artist, Celeste
Kelly, at our school from January 2 through January 13th. Students
met the artist in small, in-house introductory assemblies that
were held in December. For the project, the artist designed
a mosaic mural derived from motifs included in paper quilt
squares that Ms. Benjamin's Cycle IV students created in art
class. When the design was complete, students from Ms.
Ragan's and Ms. Benjamin's classes took turns working with
the artist, transforming the design into fifteen tile mosaic
squares that were fixed to the wall in the cafeteria entry
hall. Six extra squares were made to be used as seasonal steppingstones
in the school's garden. The mosaic materials used in the squares
included mirrors, old plates, tiles, pottery, and various ceramic
contributions that students throughout the school had brought
in previously and placed in collection boxes in each schoolhouse.
Adult volunteers helped break the donated items into
usable size pieces and then sorted the pieces into color
groups before the students began their work. PTA parent volunteers
and small groups of students helped with the final stage of
the project- grouting the mounted mosaics. The final result
is a stunning, rhythmic, quilt-like arrangement of contrasting
colors and shapes that are unified by the color of the grout.
Celeste
Kelly is from Newark, Delaware and has been creating colorful,
vibrant art for the past twenty years. Her most recent outdoor
piece is a mosaic at Nonantum Farms in Landenberg. We extend
our appreciation to the AGIS PTA for organizing and sponsoring
this experience.
