Spring Book Fair

Our Scholastic Book Fair is from March4th -12th. The Book Fair begins with a teacher preview on the 4th. The teachers will be invited to shop and put together their "Wish lists" on this date. The Book Fair will be open during conferences for families to shop. As always, we are looking for volunteers! If you can help, please call Michelle Rubin at 610- 255-4103. Thanks in advance for helping to make this spring’s Book Fair a big success!

Do You Have A Passion For Art?

Then we have a volunteer position for you!  The Artist-In-Residence program is looking for volunteers to help with the program and the sixth grade art project.  This position gives you an opportunity to work with our sixth graders, our local artist-in-residence, and our art teachers, as well as other adults with the same interests.  Please contact Mary Ann Feeney for more information at 610-869-1567, or by email at mafeeney4@comcast.net.  Clearances are recommended, but not necessary.

Congratulations to the 2007-08 AGIS PTA Officers

VOLUNTEER CLEARANCES – IMPORTANT!

If a parent volunteer has obtained valid Act 34 and Act 151 clearances during the 2006-2007 school year, and has volunteered in any capacity in the Avon Grove School District during the 06-07 school year, those clearances will remain valid for the 2007-2008 school year, and can be used at any school during the year.  Volunteering at any Avon Grove school at least once during the school year maintains the validity of the clearances.
The Avon Grove School District will reimburse the cost of the clearances one time only.  If a volunteer obtained reimbursement for clearances but did not volunteer during the 06-07 school year and therefore needs to obtain new clearances, the volunteer will not be reimbursed a second time.

AGIS/PLE Student Directory

Ads  We still have room for ads!  Please contact Delia Dorn at 610-869-3912 or dvdorn@verizon.net for more information.  Most of our ads are business card sized, but a limited number of larger sizes are available.
Volunteers  If you’d like to help out on the directory (proofreading and/or distribution,) please contact Peggy Bell-Cole at bellcole@verizon.net or 610-869-2337.
Unlisted phone numbers  If your phone number was NOT listed in last year’s directory, and you would like it to be listed this year, please contact the school to ask that the unlisted tag be removed from your child’s record.  If you have children at PLE as well, you must contact them with the same request.
Second family opt-in  This form was erroneously included in the PTA membership packet, and has caused much confusion.  It only applies to children whose parents do not live at the same address, and is a way for the non-custodial parent to have their address listed in the directory along with the child’s primary address.  If you filled out this form in error, please contact Peggy Bell-Cole to have your form discarded.  If you want a form and didn’t get one, please contact her via email to receive one.

What Does Our PTA Do?

Activities that directly benefit children:

Accelerated Reading – we purchase the books and quiz materials for this program.  Students read books and take computerized quizzes for comprehension

Assemblies - we research, book and pay for educational assemblies for our children

Field Trips - we pay for the transportation of students to field trips, and pay for entrance fees for those who need financial help

Artist in Residence/Author in Residence - we help search out and pay for artists and authors to come into our schools and work with our children.

After School Enrichment - we run a multi-class program offering activities such as language, sports, crafts, etc.

School Store - we help students run a school store selling folders, pencils, etc. twice each month

School Products - we sell clothing imprinted with the school and Avon Grove logo

Holiday Gift Shop - we run a store during school hours for children to buy their holiday gifts

Reflections - This is a national PTA program honoring the arts - photography, visual arts, literature and art.  Competition begins locally and continues to national level and includes awards.

Environmental Program – we help finance nature trail maintenance and programs

Book Fairs - we bring in quality book vendors who offer books at a discount.  Sale is during school hours as well as evenings.  There are two sales – November and April

Activities (non-profit) that benefit children and their families

Student Directory - we publish a directory of students with names, addresses and phone numbers.    Families can opt to not have personal information printed.

Family Fun Night – Friday night family oriented activities with refreshments and prizes.  WE NEED A CHAIR OR THIS ACTIVITY WILL NOT RUN!!

Hershey Park Tickets – we sell discounted tickets to Hershey Park (spring)

Roller Skating – we organize a family oriented skating party (spring)

Sunshine Fund – we collect donations for a fund used to send gifts to students in times of need

Some ways we raise money for this:

SCRIP Gift Cards – purchase gift cards from over 100 retailers, restaurants and grocery stores; the PTA receives cash  (2-13%) from the merchants, while you receive the full value of the card.

Market Day - we run a monthly sale, offering frozen food, kid favorites, lunchbox items, etc.

Boxtops/Campbells labels - we collect General Mills boxtops and Campbell's labels.  They are redeemed for cash and school items.

Country Christmas – AGIS and PLE PTAs organize and run this community event.  It centers around an indoor craft fair, offers food and entertainment, and has numerous activities for kids

Some other things we do:

Staff holiday breakfast and Appreciation luncheon – we provide meals to our teachers and staff to show our appreciation for their dedication

Teachers Fund - we provide $50 to each teacher for their use in their classrooms

Principals Fund - we supply $250 for each schoolhouse

Buy recess equipment - we buy balls, chalk, jump-ropes, etc. - all those things that kids wear out

Buy birthday pencils for the principals - ask your child to show you his/her pencil!

Special project for this year will be to raise funds for improving the
cafeteria sound system – look for the fundraiser catalog soon!

Volunteers
Volunteers Are Important!

AGIS PTA would like your help. The success of our programs is directly dependent on our volunteers. Each year we ask parents to contribute as much time as possible. Even giving as few as three hours during the entire school year can help. Activities can be done outside normal school hours, at home or
at school. Any time you can volunteer is appreciated and benefits your child and the school.

Attention Volunteers: Revision to Board Policy #916
“Effective July 1, 2005, building level administra-tors are responsible for ensuring that all volunteers having direct contact with children shall undergo and complete criminal background and child abuse clearance checks prior to serving. Such clearances are to be maintained by the principal at each school. Volunteers shall be reimbursed for the cost of these clearances, i.e., $10.00 for the Act 34 clearance, $10.00 for the Act 151 clearance, and $24.00, if necessary, for the FBI clearance) after filing appropriate receipts. The clearance requirement shall not apply to a volunteer for a single event where the volunteer will have no contact with children other than under the direct supervision and in the physical presence of district staff."
