Notice of Adoption of the CCIU's Policies, Procedures and the Use of
Funds
May 31, 2011 On May 26,
2011, the Avon Grove Board of School Directors approved a Notice
of Adoption of the Chester County Intermediate Unit’s Policies,
Procedures and the Use of Funds, for the Individuals with Disabilities
Education Act – Part B funding for 2011-2012, as required by federal
and Pennsylvania Department of Education regulations.
Cafeteria Notice
May 26, 2011 During the
school year the cafeteria manager prints out letters every 2 weeks to
give to students who have outstanding account balances in the cafeteria.
The last notification will be Friday, June 3. Please check with your child
to find out if there is a cafeteria bill that needs to be taken care of.
All accounts need to be settled by June 16. The June menu is printed on
the back of the May menu and also appears on our website. The last day
that students will be permitted to charge purchases in the cafeteria will
be Friday, June 3. Please do not wait until the last week of school to
settle your accounts. It would be very helpful and appreciated if all
bills were paid by Thursday, June 16. Thank you.
End of the Year Reminders
May 26, 2011
- Parent/Guardian pick up medication (Epi-Pen, inhaler, etc).
- Pay lunch charges and any other bills.
- Send in 11/12 Transportation Registration Form.
- Send in 11/12 Childcare Request Form (if needed).
- Return 11/12 survey.
- Return school property (classroom or library books, school materials,
etc.)
- Take home personal property.
- Claim Lost & Found items.
Report Cards
May 26, 2011 No report cards
will be given out in advance. Students who are absent on the last day,
and those who have not resolved their debts with AGIS, will need to return
to the school office during the summer to pick up their report cards.
Reminders will be given to all students who have bills to pay or property
to return.
Last Day Buses
May 26, 2011 If your student
will need a bus pass for the last day of school, Thursday, June 16, please
help us by sending in your written request early with the clear notation
that it is for the last day of school. Don’t forget that busses
2, 3, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 21, 23, 27, 35, 38, 43, 45, 47, 50, 52, 53, 63,
80, 81, and 88 are full and no passes can be written for them. Thank you
for your cooperation.
Yearbooks 2010-2011
May 26, 2011 Yearbooks will
be distributed to those who pre-ordered on Thursday, June 9! Extra yearbooks
may be purchased in the Main Office on Monday, June 13, from 8:10 a.m.
until they run out. The yearbook price is $17. Cash or checks will be
accepted. Please make your check payable to “AG School District.”
From the Nurse's Office
May 26, 2011
Medication: Due to the
newly updated medication policy change, the nurses are not able to send
school medications back home with students at the end of the school year.
Board Medication Administration policy 210, item #15, states that parents
shall retrieve all unused medication within two weeks of the end of the
school year. If the medication is not retrieved, it shall be disposed
of under the supervision of the school nurse and one witness.
Please make every effort to pick up your child’s medications (inhaler,
Epi-Pen, etc.) from the school nurses’ office at the end of the
school year. You may want to stop by the nurses’ office on the day
of the portfolio picnic at your convenience. Thank you so much for your
cooperation.
Please also note that a NEW written health care provider's order must
accompany all medication that a parent/guardian is requesting the school
nurse to administer to his/her child next year.
Sixth Grade Physicals:If your child obtains a 6th grade
physical and immunizations during the summer, please fax the report to
the Middle School (NOT the Intermediate School) to the attention of Jane
Yerkes, RN, School Nurse. The fax number is 610-869-0827. .
Seventh Grade Sports Physicals: If your 6th grader is planning to play
a sport at the Middle School next year, he/she must have a sports physical
done after June 1st. Sports physical packets are available online via
the school district website, and will also be available in the AGIS main
office and the school nurses' office next week.
Dental Exams: Dental exams are required for students
in 4th and 7th grade. Please fax the report of any dental exam done over
the summer to our school dental hygienist, Kathleen D'Antonio, RDH. Fourth
grade dental exams should be faxed to AGIS at 484-667-4428.
Seventh grade dental exams should be faxed to the Middle School at 610-869-0827.

• Attention Orange Pod Parents! Your child’s pod had the most
participation at the YMCA's Healthy Kids Day Fun Run back on April 16.
Those students who attended won a pool party for the ENTIRE ORANGE SCHOOL
HOUSE! Yes, all orange house students in grades 3-6 are invited. The information
below outlines the plan. Any student wishing to attend needs to pick up
a registration form for the event from any PE teacher and return that
to Mr. Whitmer by June 12. (Or your child simply needs to ask their homeroom
teacher for a form and have it filled out and returned to their teacher
by June 12.)

• Field Day is June 3rd! Our annual field day will be Friday, June
3. The day is a great one here at AGIS and our emphasis is on fitness,
sportsmanship, and fun. Please be aware that students are permitted to
bring a bottle of water and should dress appropriately for the event.
No cleats are permitted, so sneakers only. Thanks to our PE team for the
well organized plan they put in place each year. We are looking forward
to a wonderful day!
Board to Consider 2011-2012 Final Budget June 16
May 23, 2011 The Board of
School Directors approved the 2011-2012 Preliminary General Fund Budget
on May 12 with a proposed real estate tax rate of 26.18 mills. The Board
is scheduled to consider adoption of the final budget on Thursday, June
16. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Avon Grove Intermediate School

West African Dance Class with LIVE drumming
May 23, 2011 Attention Parents
and Teachers: Our Artist in Residence, Janet Peck will be teaching an
African Dance Class on Monday June 13, 2011 from 3:45-5pm in the AGIS
GYM. Cost is $5/person (grown-ups only please).

Attention 6th Grade Parents
May 12, 2011 Fred S. Engle
Middle School is hosting an informational night for all 6th grade parents
on May 25 at 7:00 pm. The purpose of the evening is to help parents and
their children plan for the transition from 6th to 7th grade. The program
will include information presented by representatives from the four content
areas (language arts, math, science, and social studies), art cycle, and
PE, as well as our guidance department, nurse, and athletic director.
A letter will be coming home during the week of May 16 with more information.
We look forward to seeing you on May 25!
2011-12 Child Care Transportation
May 12, 2011 The AG School
District may provide transportation services to/from before school/after
school care located within the boundaries of the AG School District, if
there is space available on the established bus route.Transportation requests
for child care must be submitted on an annual basis. The form should be
returned to your child’s school of attendance for the 2011-2012

school office.
Leadership Positions Available
May 12, 2011 The AGIS PTA
Nominating Committee needs your help. There are still open positions in
the PTA for the 2011-2012 school year. These positions include Vice-President,
Volunteer Coordination, Market Day, Welcoming Committee, Muffins for Mon/Donuts
for Dad, After-School Enrichment, and assistance with the PTA newsletter.
