week of October 18th - 22nd AGIS will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week.
Red Ribbon Week is a national event celebrated in school districts and
communities throughout the country. It is a time when we stop and think
about the problem of substance abuse and its negative impact on our schools,
our communities, and our nation.
We have creative activities planned for our students to participate in to show their support for a drug-free lifestyle. All of our fifth graders will be able to participate in a drug-free poster contest containing a positive drug-free message, and all our sixth graders will be able to participate in a public service announcement contest persuading their peers to not use drugs or alcohol. Both contests are completely voluntary and each homeroom teacher has packets containing the rules. The best public service announcement and the top two posters will be sent on to compete against other 5th and 6th grade students in the state of PA. Each homeroom will receive a large red ribbon for the students to sign and pledge to live healthy drug-free lives. Every morning, during homeroom, announcements will be made to educate students on the purpose of Red Ribbon Week and the importance of making healthy, responsible choices. On Friday the students will be asked to fill out a trivia worksheet which will have questions pertaining to the morning announcements. The students that answer each question correctly could have the opportunity to receive prizes. Red Ribbon Week will be a very positive educational week for AGIS.
