Early Dismissal & Spring Break Schedule

March 18, 2010

All Avon Grove schools will dismiss early on Tuesday, March 23 through Friday, March 26. (Monday, March 22 is a full day of school.) AGIS students will be dismissed at 1:10. Lunches will be served on a modified schedule. The salad bar will not be available on Friday. School will be closed for Spring Break from Monday through Friday, March 29 to April 2. The first day back to school is Monday, April 5.

Needed: Career Day Presenters

March 18, 2010 We are looking for volunteers to share their careers and educational experiences with the students. The dates and times for each career day follow. We will need 10-12 presenters for each schoolhouse. Thank you!

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

March 18, 2010 Thursday, April 22, is designated as Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day all across the United States. If you plan to take your child to work with you that day, you must send a note in prior to April 22 in order for the day to be considered a field trip and not an absence. If a note is received after the day, it will be counted as a day absent, but excused.

Blue Rocks Reading Challenge

March 18, 2010 Congratulations to the 450 students who successfully completed the Wilmington Blue Rocks Reading Challenge. These students met the challenge by reading a minimum of eight books from January to March.
Each participating student will receive two complimentary tickets to a Blue Rocks game. (The date is to be determined by the Blue Rocks.) The tickets should arrive in late April. We look forward to seeing so many students at the AGIS night at the Blue Rocks.

Spring Pictures

March 18, 2010 Students have brought home their Spring picture packages. If you wish to purchase any or all of the photographs, please send in your payment to the school office. You may return the whole package to the school if you choose not to purchase it, or you may keep what you like and return the remaining pictures along with your payment. Checks should be written to “Lifetouch” and sent in to school by April 7 if possible, and no later than April 23.

Alternate Schedule for AG High School

March 18, 2010 During the administration of the PSSA tests on April 13, 14, and 15, Avon Grove High School students will report to school according to the following schedule:
•Grades 9, 10, & 12: Start Time 10:30 AM, Regular Dismissal
Transportation will be provided for Grades 9, 10, & 12 on a three-hour delay.
•Grade 11: Regular Start Time, Regular Dismissal
Transportation will be provided for Grade 11 on the regular transportation schedule.
•All other schools will follow the normal daily schedule on
April 13, 14, & 15.

PSSA Testing April 7-30

March 4, 2010

All AGIS students will be taking PSSA reading and math assessment tests from April 7-14. Our fifth graders will also be taking the PSSA writing tests the week of April 19, and our fourth graders will be taking the PSSA science tests the week of April 26. Please do not plan any appointments or trips on these dates. A yellow information flyer is coming home today. You can refer to the PA Department of Education website, www.pde.state.pa.us, for further information.

Calling All Artists! March is Youth Art Month

March 4, 2010 This year the AGIS Art Department will be holding a Mini Masterpiece Exhibit. Interested students should 1) Choose their favorite artist, 2) Copy one of the artist’s artworks onto a 4”x6” paper using their favorite medium, and 3) Submit the artwork and the entry form to Ms Benjamin or Mrs. Hallman. The entries will be on display for the month of March. Please check out the exhibit outside the library during conferences. Participants will be invited to an opening celebration on March 12. Due to the snow days the deadline for submission will be pushed back from March 5 to Wednesday, March 10.

PTA Meeting

March 4, 2010 Please plan to come at 7PM Tuesday, March 16, to our general membership PTA meeting in the library. Be in on what's happening.

School Closing Make-Up Days

March 4, 2010

Reminder – School days missed due to inclement weather will be made up at the end of this school year. The 5 snow days we had on February 10, 11, 12, 25 and 26 will be made up on June 14-18. Unless we have additional school closings, the last day of school this year will now be Friday, June 18.
