save the date and plan to attend Avon Grove School District’s annual
Technology Fair & Science Exhibition, scheduled from 6 p.m. to 7:30
p.m. on Thursday, March 18, 2010, at Avon Grove High School. Avon Grove
students, parents, and community members are invited to explore instructional
technology demos, interactive exhibits, and how-to technology sessions
for parents. More than 40 instructional technology exhibits will be featured.
Student science fair projects will also be on display. More information
will be posted on the District’s online Newsroom at www.avongrove.org
as the event date approaches.
2010-11 School Calendar ApprovedFebruary 18, 2010 At the
School Board meeting last night, the directors approved the calendar for
the 2010-2011 school year. View it HERE.
FYI – Our first student day of school will be Monday, August 30. 2010. Spring Picture Day- February 27February 18, 2010 On Monday,
February 22, photographers will be here to take spring pictures of each
of our students, as well as group pictures of our sixth graders. Flyers
are being sent home with more information.
No money is required on picture day. By April, each student will receive a standard portrait package with a price list and instructions. You will be asked to send in payment for the pictures you choose to keep and/or return any unwanted pictures within ten days. In the event of any weather related impact on our school day this Monday, we will cancel and reschedule spring pictures. If we do reschedule, you will be notified. Blue Rocks ReminderFebruary 18, 2010 This year
AGIS is once again participating in Rocky’s Reading Challenge program
sponsored by the Wilmington Blue Rocks. This challenge requires students
to read a minimum of 8 books. Students may count any books they have read
from January 2010 until March 11. This would also include any books read
in the classroom as a book study. Simply record the book titles and turn
the list in to your child’s teacher. Winter is a great time to relax
and read.
YearbooksFebruary 18, 2010 Yearbook
order forms are coming home today. The cost this year is $15, the same
as last year. If you pay by check, please make it payable to “Avon
Grove School District” (NOT Lifetouch.)
Extra yearbooks are ordered to sell “first come, first served” in the spring. When we run out, there are always some very disappointed students. If you don’t want to be left out, please be sure to order your yearbook before March 5. Strings & Instrumental Music ConcertFebruary 18, 2010 The AGIS
first year strings students and first year instrumental music students
have been preparing for a concert to be presented on Thursday, March 4.
All are welcome to attend the concert at 7:00 PM in the AGIS cafetorium.
Roller Skating Party-March 13February 18, 2010 Our annual
AGIS family roller skating party will be held Saturday evening, March
13, from 5:15-7:15 PM at the Christiana Skating Center in Newark, DE.
Ticket order forms will be coming home soon. The cost will be $2 for children,
$3 for skating adults.
AGIS Band Performing at Blue RocksFebruary 18, 2010 The AGIS
band will be performing the “Star Spangled Banner” just prior
to the Wilmington Blue Rocks home opener on Friday, April 16, at 7:00
PM. Come on out to the ball game – it’s fireworks night!
09/10 School Directories for SaleFebruary 18, 2010 We have
extra directories for sale for $10.00. (Please write your check to AGIS
PTA and note your child’s name & teacher on the envelope.) You
can also join the PTA for $8.00 and receive a directory as part of your
membership. (What a bargain!) For a membership form please contact Cheri

Early Dismissal TodayFebruary 5, 2010 Due to
the threat of inclement weather, the Avon Grove School District will have
an early dismissal today, Friday, February 5, 2010. The middle school
and high school will dismiss at 1:30 PM. The elementary schools will dismiss
at 2:30 PM. All after school and weekend school activities are cancelled.
