AGHS Winter Band Concert Rescheduled

December 18, 2009 Due to the inclement weather, the AGHS Winter Band Concert scheduled for Sunday, December 20th has been postponed to Monday, December 21st at 7:00 PM in the AGHS Auditorium. Please understand that our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our students and the general public. Thank you for your understanding and we apologize for any inconvenience this presents.

AGHS Breakfast with Santa

December 18, 2009 Breakfast with Santa in the AGHS Cafeteria on Saturday, December 19th will still take place as scheduled.

Winter Weather Has Arrived

December 17, 2009 Serious weather conditions or other emergencies may make it necessary to close school, delay the opening of school, or dismiss students early. This year the district will be utilizing the Edulink call system to notify parents of cancellations or delays. In addition, emergency information will be posted on the District web site and will be broadcast on the radio and television. Please monitor these communication systems as needed. We ask that you do not call the school, as unnecessary phone calls will tie up our phone lines and personnel needed to deal with the emergency.
During dismissal, our school driveways and parking lots can become very congested. School bus transportation is the safest means of getting our students home. We encourage parents to have children use school bus transportation during inclement weather. This way our roads, driveways, and parking lots will be less congested.
In the event of an emergency school closing, students need to know what to do when they get home in the event that you are not there. Please discuss appropriate arrangements with your child prior to any unforeseen emergency situation.
Please note that when school is cancelled, all after-school or evening programs or activities for that day are also cancelled.
(Breakfast is not served on late opening days.)

Student M.A.P. Assessment Coming Up

December 17, 2009 We will begin our winter MAP tests (Measures of Academic Progress) on Wednesday, January 6. All students will take the MAP on computers at various locations in the school. These tests take about one hour to administer. Each child will be assessed in Reading and Math. MAP is a nationally normed test given 3 times a year that provides our teachers with excellent information about areas of strength and areas of need for their students. The MAP schedule is as follows:
  • January 6 & 7 Orange
  • January 8 & 11 Purple
  • January 12 & 13 Red
  • January 14 & 15 Blue

    Attendance Reminders

December 3, 2009 Starting this week, initial warning letters will be sent to the parents and guardians of students who have more than 3 unexcused absences as of December 1. Students who are absent must bring in a signed note from a parent or guardian within 3 days of the student’s return to school. If no written excuse note is brought in within 3 days, the absence becomes unexcused. The following are the only reasons that a student ‘s absence will be excused: illness, death in the immediate family, religious holidays, health care appointments, urgent family reasons, court appearances, and *educational family trips.

*Please remember – absences for trips, traveling, family occasions, vacations, etc. must be approved by a principal at least one week in advance of the absence.

    Bus Pass Reminders

    December 3, 2009
    • Students who need to get off at a different stop on either the same bus they are assigned to or a different bus, must have a note from their parent or guardian. These notes are to be given to the homeroom teacher or the main office so that official bus passes can be prepared and recorded.
    • Please notice – these request notes are not to be handed directly to the bus drivers. The bus drivers can only accept official bus passes from the school office.
    • As stated previously, we cannot issue passes for any groups of students (i.e. birthday parties, scout meetings, etc.) due to the limited seating available. Our quota is 2-3 passes per bus each day.
    • The following buses are full and cannot accept any passes: 2, 16, 50, & 63.
    • Please sign and date your note and remember to include the bus number and the location of the established stop, or the name of the student with whom your child will be riding.
    Thank you for your cooperation.
