News Archive: April, 2008Strategic PlanApril 24, 2008 The Avon Grove School District is in the process of developing a District wide Strategic Plan for 2008-2013 in accordance with the Regulations of the State Board of Education. The intent of the plan is to enhance the capacity of the school district to encourage, support and sustain continuous improvement in the quality of education provided to students. Our focus throughout the process is to improve our present educational program and set high expectations for the achievement for all students. Components of the Strategic Plan are in draft form and have been posted on the District Web site for your review and feedback. We welcome you to read the posted documents and provide comments to the committee as they continue to work on the development of the plan.

Daughters and Sons to Work DayApril 17, 2008 Thursday, April 24, is designated as Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day all across the United States. If you plan to take your child to work with you that day, you must send a note in prior to April 24 in order for the day to be considered a field trip and not an absence. If a note is received after the day, it will be counted as a day absent, but excused.
AGIS Spring Instrumental and Choral ConcertsApril 17, 2008 The fifth and sixth grade strings and AGIS band will be presenting their Spring Concert on Wednes-day, April 30, at 6:30 PM, immediately followed by the fourth, fifth, and sixth grade choirs’ Spring Concert at 7:30 PM. We hope many of you will make plans to attend this special evening as we showcase the talents of our wonderful students.

Poet J. Patrick Lewis to Visit AGISApril 17, 2008 Poet J. Patrick Lewis will visit AGIS May 21-22. He has written more than 58 children’s books and has won numerous awards from the American Library Association and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
Community Food and Clothing DriveApril 17, 2008
The Bridge is a neighborhood volunteer organization that helps meet the physical needs of local families by supplying food and clothing at no cost to them. Items are distributed every Tuesday evening and Saturday morning from a storage trailer located behind the Church of the Nazarene, on State Road in West Grove. The Humanitarian Club of the Avon Grove High School is one group that supports The Bridge.
The school nurses at the Avon Grove Intermediate School would like to sponsor a school-wide food and clothing drive to benefit The Bridge. Our drive will take place from May 5 until May 16. In addition to gently used, clean spring and summer clothing items for children and adults, we would like to collect the following food items: Grade 3 – Canned vegetables Grade 4 – Canned fruit, canned juices, juice boxes Grade 5 – Pasta products/rice/macaroni & cheese Grade 6 – Canned meats/boxed all-in-one meals All donations can be brought to school and placed in the collection boxes outside of the nurses’ office during the two weeks of the drive. If you have any questions, please call the AGI school nurses, Mrs. Dundon and Mrs. Lee, at 610-869-2010. Thank you in advance for your support. Middle School Placement TestsApril 2, 2008
Attention Incoming FSE 7th Grade Parents!
The middle school guidance team will soon begin the placement process for the 2008-2009 school year. Sixth grade students will be given a math test to help determine math placement for the seventh grade year. This test will be given in May. Parents will receive the results of this test in a math placement letter that will be sent home in late May. Spring PicturesApril 2, 2008 Although the first deadline has passed, it’s not too late to send in your payment and/or return your unwanted spring pictures. If you haven’t already done so, please turn them in next week. The final deadline is April 22. Checks should be written to Lifetouch.

AGSD's Annual Technology Fair & Science Exhibition: April 10April 1, 2008 Parents, students, and members of the community are invited to attend Avon Grove School District’s annual Technology Fair & Science Exhibition, scheduled Thursday, April 10, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Avon Grove Intermediate School cafetorium.
The Technology Fair is designed to showcase the creative ways teachers use technology to engage and educate students who are growing up in a digital age. Teachers and students in grades K-12 will conduct hands-on demonstrations of lessons and learning activities in various subjects. Also, student finalists and other Avon Grove School District participants in the Chester County Science Research Competition will display a variety of outstanding, award-winning science projects. Visitors will be eligible for a chance to win prizes. Don’t miss this exciting, interactive event. |
