Poetry Palooza Websites for Students to Explore

March 27, 2008 poetry palooza logoThis year the AGIS PTA is supporting literacy enrichment with a year-long celebration of poetry called Poetry Palooza. The Palooza is bringing workshops, readings, displays, distinguished visitors and events to the school to demonstrate the beauty, whimsy and relevance of poetry in the everyday life of students, teachers and families. Beginning this month, fourth graders in purple and orange pods will participate in a 14-session in-class poetry workshop with Master Teachers.

In May, award-winning poet and author J. Patrick Lewis will visit our school and share thoughts about his work with all our experienced 4th grade poets. Mr. Lewis has written over fifty children's books with forty of them being children's poetry.  He will engage small groups of 5th- and 6th-grade students in hands-on workshops and will share a special reading with our youngest 3rd-grade poets. Students will have the opportunity to purchase books for signing by Mr. Lewis. To learn more about J. Patrick Lewis, go to www.jpatricklewis.com.
