Special Public Meeting of the School Board Thursday NightApril 25, 2007On Thursday, April 26, at 7:00 PM in the AGIS Audion, a special public meeting will be held for the purpose of reviewing, discussing, and soliciting public comment relating to the acquisition of approximately 154 acres of land for the development of a new regional secondary school complex.
Autism Awareness MonthApril 25, 2007 April is Autism Awareness Month. Our school will celebrate this with a special autism awareness activity. Four hundred of our students will gather outside to create a very large human autism puzzle ribbon on Friday, April 27, 2007 at 1:40 pm. This is how we are going to select the students who will form the human ribbon outside on the blacktop behind the school. We will have a drawing from which we will select one third, one fourth, one fifth and one sixth grade class from each pod. Those classes that are randomly chosen will need to be accompanied by their classroom or special area teachers.
Friday will be a school wide spirit day. Students and faculty are encouraged to wear red, yellow and blue shirts to represent the colors in the autism ribbon. The autism puzzle ribbon represents the mystery of autism, the difference and diversity of the people living with autism, and most important, the bright colors of hope! The Autism Society of the greater Philadelphia chapter has enabled us to make an autism awareness ribbon for every student and teacher at our school, which means we have made 1,850 ribbons. Transportation For Next YearApril 25, 2007 Planning bus routes for the 2007-2008 school year will soon be underway. All students will be assigned to their home bus stop for the coming school year, and current day care arrangements will be deleted. A new transportation request form for alternate arrangements must be submitted each new school year.
If your child will be regularly using a bus stop different from your home bus stop next year, even if it is the same arrangement as this year, you must put it in writing. Transportation Request Forms are available on our AGIS website and in the office at your request. It is necessary to have the name, specific address, and telephone number of your day care provider, as well as a clear explanation of the request, especially if there will be day variants. Reading OlympicsApril 25, 2007 On Thursday, April 19, 51 students from AGIS participated in the Fourth Annual Chester County Reading Olympics at Downingtown High School West. This a countywide competition where students have the opportunity to display their knowledge of popular books in a game show setting. The competition is fast-paced, exciting, and very challenging. It requires students to work collaboratively with their team so that the group has an in-depth knowledge of all the books on the competition list. Thus, the students become experts in certain books and their teammates rely on their knowledge during the competition.
The Olympics are primarily a celebration of reading rather than a contest. All participants are awarded ribbons. AGIS teachers Mrs. Schmidt, Mrs. Shaw, Mrs. Ripkey, Mrs. Marshall, Ms. DeFeo, Mrs. Goldovich, Ms. Schusler, Ms. Henderson, Mrs. Sharon, and Mr. DiEmidio dedicated several hours after school to help the students prepare for the competition. The club was funded through a joint effort between the school and the PTA. Information about joining the club will be coming home in late May for fifth and sixth grade students who would like to participate in the 2007-08 school year. Take Your Child To Work DayApril 20 , 2007 Thursday, April 26, is Take Your Child to Work Day.
