We are still looking for a chair and co-chair for the After School Enrichment program, which usually gets underway just after the holidays. This is a very popular program, but we can’t do it without a couple of folks willing to lead it. We will provide lots of support and help, but unless we can fill the chair positions, we will cancel this program. If you need more information, contact Peggy Bell-Cole at 610-869-2337. Second Family Option – Would you like to ensure that your family’s information is listed in the student directory? This year, the PTA is attempting to include the names and phone numbers of parents and step-parents who are not listed as the primary parent or guardian of the AGIS or PLE student. However, to take advantage of this option, please fill out the Directory Opt In form by October 13. Email Peggy Bell-Cole at mbcole@netreach.net for a copy of the form. Unlisted Phone Numbers – If your phone number was not published in last year’s directory, and you would like it to be, you must contact the school and ask that the “unlisted” tag be removed from your child(ren)’s record(s). District privacy policy prevents us from publishing unlisted phone numbers. Note that the information listed in the school’s database is the source for the directory, NOT the membership application forms. Questions? Contact Peggy Bell-Cole at mbcole@netreach.net. Award-winning children’s author and illustrator, Michael Dooling, will be visiting with 3rd and 4th graders at AGIS on October 18 and 19. For students, one of the most exciting aspects of an author/illustrator visit is the opportunity to have a real live author or illustrator sign a copy of their book. The AGIS PTA will be purchasing a set of Mr. Dooling’s books for each schoolhouse, and also offering families the opportunity to purchase books for autographing at a discounted price. Order forms will be going home with children this week. Completed forms, along with a check made payable to AGIS PTA, should be returned to your child’s teacher by September 20. If you have questions about your book order, please contact Eileen Sparling at 610-345-1160 or at eileensparling@comcast.net.

As soon as we get the okay, we will announce it over the school intercom and include the notice in the next newsletter.

"Don’t Be An Ostrich!” All parents are invited to hear one of the most well regarded speakers in the area talk about the warning signs of substance abuse. Avon Grove High School’s PTO and Avon Grove’s Student Assistance Program are sponsoring a parents’ night on September 27th 2006 at 6:30 p.m. in the Avon Grove High School cafeteria. The speaker, Debra Delp, has her degree in nursing and social services, but her real experience comes from how drugs and alcohol have personally affected her life. The program provides parents with information about how to talk to their children about drugs and alcohol, how to identify if their child is using, and what they and their family can do about it. There will be a wide range of information to read and take home as well as tasty refreshments! Every parent will be faced with issues surrounding drugs and alcohol at some point in their child’s life; we would like to help them prepare! Admission is Free!
