National School Counseling Week

February 2, 2006 National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), will be celebrated from February 6-10, 2006, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of professional school counselors within U.S. school systems.  National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact that counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

     School counselors …

  • actively engage in helping students examine their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents;
  • work in partnership with parents as they encounter the challenges of raising children in today’s world;
  • focus on positive ways to enhance students’ social/personal, educational, and career development; and
  • work with teachers and other professionals to provide an educational environment where students can realize their potential and set healthy, realistic, and optimistic aspirations for themselves.

Professional school counselors are certified, experienced educators with a master’s degree in guidance and counseling.  The combination of their training and experience makes them an integral part of the educational part of the educational program.

The ultimate goal of the school counselor is to enable all students to achieve success in school and become responsible, productive members of our society.

Thank you Mrs. Brown, Miss Fox, Ms. Burns, and Mrs. Gill for all your tireless efforts on behalf of our children.
