Freshmen Academy/Reassignment of Guidance Counselors

June 15, 2010 Avon Grove High School will be instituting a “Freshmen Academy” in the fall of 2010 for all incoming freshmen.  The purpose of this program is to help ninth grade students make a successful transition by building upon successful structures in place at Fred S. Engle Middle School.  In keeping with this “small learning community” structure (grade level assistant principal, guidance counselor, and class advisor) it has been necessary to re-assign the remaining guidance counselors to a specific grade level. The configuration for the high school guidance department for the 2010-2011 school year is as follows:

9th grade – Ms. Jennifer Meyers
10th grade – Mr. Scott Searfoss
11th grade – Ms. Christine Rivera
12th grade – Ms. Elaine Markowitz
Post secondary Counselor - Mr. Duane Carroll
CDO/Career Counselor - Mr. Carl Hoffman

Military Recruiting

June 15, 2010Both federal and state laws require Superintendents to provide military recruiters access to secondary school students. To ensure we are in compliance with the collective laws, superintendents are required to provide names, addresses, and telephone listings of junior and senior year students to military recruiters, when requested, unless a parent has “opted out” of providing such information. Act 10 requires the list of graduating seniors be made available to armed forces recruiters by the first day of the academic year they graduate. <More Info>
