Concurrent Enrollment with Delaware County Community College
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s): (See Forms Below at Bottom of Page)
The Avon Grove School District (AGSD) has entered into a Concurrent Enrollment agreement with Delaware County Community College (DCCC) for eligible seniors to earn college credits while still attending the high school. The deadline for the DCCC application is March 26th, 2010. All applications must be in the guidance office by that date.
Please read carefully:
- Many AGSD seniors complete the majority of their required courses/graduation credits prior to the start of their senior year. Increasingly, high schools have been exploring Concurrent Enrollment agreements with local colleges that permit their students to both try out college courses to determine whether or not this is the right path for them, and/or earn college credits during the last year of their high school career, in such courses as college-level English, mathematics, psychology, and sociology.
- Concurrent Enrollment programs encourage more students to continue education beyond high school and improve student success in the transition from secondary to post-secondary education.
- Successfully completed courses at DCCC are transferable to a large number of four-year colleges.
- AGSD students will be responsible for all transportation, tuition and fees. Courses will be offered at DCCC’s satellite campus at the new Chester County Technical College High School at 280 Pennock's Bridge Road, West Grove, PA 19390. At present, Tuition and fees for next academic year are as follows:
The cost per 3 credit course is $672-$694
The cost per 4 credit course is $916-$958
(The range is because of the variance in instructional support fees associated with particular courses; typically courses with labs or significant technology support run at the higher level. Most typical classes not requiring such run at the lowest level.)
Please note that the College will waive the $25 application fee for concurrent enrollment applicants. |
- All DCCC services will be available to students: library, career counseling, computer labs, financial aide, learning support services and advising.
- Student eligibility will be based on academic, discipline, and attendance status, which include but are not limited to C’s or better in all courses during the 11th grade school year, proven proficiency in reading and mathematics on the PSSA assessments or comparable nationally normed tests and/or local assessments, zero discipline referrals to the office during the second semester of the 11th grade school year, 95% or better attendance, high school senior status, and principal or designee recommendation. The proposed course(s) will not interfere with the student’s ability to meet the graduation requirement for the AGSD.
- DCCC staff will also evaluate each student’s academic record to determine admission.
Please have your child discuss with his/her counselor if he/she plans to enroll and has any further questions about the Concurrent Enrollment option. The senior year schedule with the Concurrent Enrollment option can be arranged in advance or adjusted with counselor or administrator assistance during the summer.
The Avon Grove School District hopes you take advantage of this exciting new program!
If you have any questions regarding this program or your child’s eligibility to participate, please contact your child’s guidance counselor at Avon Grove High School (610-869-2446).
Sincerely,
Peg O’Grady
