Draft Comprehensive Plan Available for Review & Comment
Dr. Margaret Sharp, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, presented the draft, five-year Comprehensive Plan to the Board of School Directors at the October 9, 2014, meeting. The presentation provides a top-level overview of the plan, the process to create the plan, a timeline, and next steps. Viewing the presentation is a good first step to understanding the highlights of the plan. The draft Comprehensive Plan is a detailed document prepared using the Pennsylvania Department of Education's formatting template. The plan is open for public review and input from October 10 through November 12, 2014. Please submit comments using the online feedback form. More information and background, including the White Paper and the Influence Maps that were created through the Co-lab process, are available on the District's Strategic Plan Web page. These reports, along with information gained through school climate surveys, focus groups, one-on-one interviews with key stakeholders, and public meetings, were used to develop the draft plan.  
K-5 Elementary Math Parent Information Night
Avon Grove School District is hosting a hands-on, interactive Elementary Math Night for parents and students in grades K-5 on Monday, November 3. 
AG Marching Band Wins Chapter Championships
The Avon Grove High School Marching Band won first place at the Tournament of Bands Chapter Championship held October 18 at Wilson High School. The AG marching band also won the High Auxiliary award for best color guard and the High Percussion award for best percussion. The band competes October 26 at Hershey Park Stadium in the Atlantic Coast Championship.  
AG Art Students Create Portraits for Children in Philippines
More than a dozen Avon Grove High School students created portraits of children from the Philippines as part of The Memory Project, a nonprofit initiative which involves student artists creating a keepsake for children and teens around the world who have been neglected, orphaned, or disadvantaged. 
Eight AGHS Scholars Named Commended Students
Avon Grove High School Principal Tom Alexander announced on October 2 that eight Avon Grove students have been named Commended Students in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. 
Evans Named Lions Club’s October Student of the Month
Avon Grove High School senior Robert Evans has been named the Avon Grove Lions Club's Student of the Month for October 2014. 
Russell Named Rotary Club’s October Student of the Month
Avon Grove High School junior Kira Russell has been named the Avondale-West Grove Rotary Club's Student of the Month for October 2014. 
Health Officials Provide Information on Respiratory Virus
As you may know as a result of recent media attention, hospitals in some states are reporting more children than usual with severe respiratory illness caused by Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68), and in several states children are developing severe respiratory illness, possibly due to EV-D68.  The Chester County Health Department has provided us with information on the background of EV-D68 and the recommended prevention measures to limit the potential spread of the virus.
