PLE & AGIS Students Rock Reading Challenge
A total of 1,188 Avon Grove students met Rocky’s Reading Challenge this year – 678 from Avon Grove Intermediate School and 510 from Penn London Elementary School. 
Penn London Students Raise $17,000 for Diabetes Research
Students and staff at Penn London Elementary School participated in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Kids Walk on April 8, and raised $17,000 in pledges to help the foundation raise awareness and fund research of Type 1 diabetes.  
April 30 AGHS Principal Search Input Session
As part of the search process to find a new principal to lead Avon Grove High School, school district officials will hold a parent input session on Thursday, April 30, 2015, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the high school library.  
Alexander Appointed Director of Educational Support Services
At the April 23 School Board meeting, the Avon Grove Board of School Directors appointed Mr. Thomas Alexander to the position of Director of Educational Support Services effective July 1, 2015. 
Board Approves 2015-2016 Proposed Final Budget
The Avon Grove School District Board of School Directors approved the 2015-2016 Proposed Final Budget on April 23. The approval is to comply with the Act 1 timeline; however, much additional work needs to be done before the final budget is approved on June 11. 
Schedule K Registration Online Now for May 5-7
Penn London Elementary School’s Kindergarten student screening and in-person registration process is scheduled May 4-7. To be eligible for kindergarten for the 2015-2016 school year, students must turn 5-years-old on or before September 8, 2015. Please register for an appointment beginning Monday, April 20, on the District and Penn London's Websites. 
AGIS Students Win at County and Del-Val Science Fairs
Avon Grove Intermediate School students Alex Bollacker and Paul Clark won an Honorable Mention in the team category at the 2015 Delaware Valley Science Fair held April 2 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, and several students won in earlier competitions at the regional level.  
FSEMS Students Finish in Top 20 in PA Math Contest
Three students scored in the top 20, and both the seventh-grade and eighth-grade teams from Fred S. Engle Middle School placed very well in the 2015 Pennsylvania Math League Contest held recently. 
Lertola "Best of the Class" for AGHS
Senior Matthew Lertola was recognized April 17 as Avon Grove High School's "Best of the Class" at an event hosted by WPVI-TV, 6abc at Temple University's Performing Arts Center. 
Flores Cruz "Best of the Class" from TCHS
Avon Grove High School senior Liliana Flores Cruz was recognized April 17 as the Technical College High School's "Best in the Class" at an event hosted by WPVI-TV, 6abc at Temple University in Philadelphia. 
Auto Tech Team Wins Third
The automotive technology team of Matthew Gardner and Edward Anskis, both of whom attend the Technical College High School Pennock’s Bridge, won third place in the 22nd annual Greater Philadelphia Automotive Technology Competition held recently at the Automotive Training Center in Warminster, Pennsylvania. 
Herion Commits to Play Softball at West Chester
Avon Grove High School senior Alyssa Herion signed a national letter of intent April 16 to play Division II softball at West Chester University next year. 
District Seeks Feedback on Options in Facilities Study
At the March 4, 2015, Facilities Committee Meeting, representatives from Gilbert Architects Inc. presented the districtwide facilities study they prepared for Avon Grove School District. District administration requested the study to assess the district's existing buildings and to evaluate capital needs. The study is for information purposes and no decisions have been made at this time regarding any of the options outlined in the report. Members of the Avon Grove community are invited to review the study and provide input and feedback regarding the options presented.  
AGIS Hosts Family Literacy Night
Avon Grove Intermediate School's Literacy Committee held a Family Literacy Night for parents and students to strengthen the home-school partnership and provide parents with ideas they can use to promote literacy at home. 
AGSD Budget Planning Update
Mr. Daniel Carsley, Avon Grove School District Business Manager, presented the proposed preliminary revenue and expense budget for 2015-2016 at the Finance Committee meeting on March 17. 
Secondary Math Sequencing Parent Info
Prior to Avon Grove High School's open house for eight-graders and their parents on Feb. 23, Dr. Michael Snopkowski, Director of Secondary Education, shared information about secondary mathematics sequencing with parents of students in grades 5-8. 
Spring Keystone Exams
The Keystone Exams are end-of-course assessments designed to evaluate proficiency in academic content. Beginning with the class of 2017, students must demonstrate proficiency in the Algebra I, the Literature and the Biology Keystone Exams to graduate. Our exam dates are as follows: 
AG's Snow Makeup Days
Please note that incorrect information regarding Avon Grove's snow makeup days was published in the April 6, 2015 edition of The Daily Local. The correct information follows: Avon Grove School District schools will be in session for a full day on June 8, a full day on June 9 (cancellation makeup day #1 for the weather-related school closure on Feb. 17), a full day on June 10 (cancellation makeup day #2 for the weather-related school closure on March 2), and a half day on June 11 (cancellation makeup day #3 for weather-related school closure on March 5). 
Board Approves Three-Year Teachers' Contract
The Avon Grove School District Board of School Directors and the Avon Grove Education Association have agreed on a new three-year contract for teachers.
