Keegan Wins Silver in 400 at States
Avon Grove High School's McKenna Keegan earned the silver medal in the 400 with a time of 55.62 at the girls AAA indoor state track championships March 1. A mere .89 seconds separated her and the winner. Keegan also medaled in the 800 with a sixth-place finish in 2:15.50. Congratulations McKenna! 
AG Girls Heading to State Swimming & Diving Championships
Congratulations to Carlie Perkins, Olivia Paoletti, Emma Brinton, Serena Derderian and Clare McGovern who qualified for the PIAA - AAA state swimming and diving championships. Paoletti is a triple qualifier, having won gold in the 200 IM at districts on Feb. 26, making her the first female swimming district champion in AGHS history, and gold in the 200 breaststroke on Feb. 27. Brinton placed fourth in the 200 IM. Derderian placed fifth in the 50 freestyle. McGovern won silver in the 500 freestyle on day two of districts. The girls won bronze in the 400 M freestyle relay. Perkins won bronze at the District 1-AAA diving championships earlier in the week, qualifying her to compete March 13-14 at Bucknell University. The Avon Grove girls team finished third overall at districts! 
Carey Double Medals at Districts; Heading to States
Avon Grove High School's Justin Carey placed sixth in the 100 M butterfly at the boys PIAA - District 1 championships on Feb. 26 and fourth in the 100 M backstroke on Feb. 27 to earn a berth at the State Championships!   
Lytle Wins in Student Press Awards Contest
Avon Grove High School junior Emily Lytle won an honorable mention in the Feature Story category of the 2015 Student Keystone Press Awards for her article, “Rooted digs deep at the Marketplace/Gift shop lights up New London crossroads,” which was published in the Dec. 19, 2014, edition of the school newspaper, The Devil’s Herald. The Pennsylvania News Media Foundation sponsors the contest. Awards are given for first and second place as well as honorable mention, which is equivalent to third place.  
Arencibia named Rotary Club's March Student of the Month
Christopher Arencibia has been named the Rotary Club Student of the Month for March. He is the son of Sophia and Manny Arencibia of West Grove, PA. 
Eby named Lions Club's March Student of the Month
Heather Eby has been named the Lions Club Student of the Month for March. She is the daughter of Bill and Janet Eby of Lincoln University.

Recently, an unofficial post on social media provided erroneous information. Please remember that official Avon Grove emergency announcements will always be communicated in multiple formats to provide redundancy and corroboration.  
Two National Merit Finalists at AGHS
Avon Grove High School seniors Tyler W. Mebane and Vikram A. Sundar were named National Merit Finalists in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program for demonstrating high potential for future academic accomplishment through distinguished performance. 
NOPE Task Force Parent Education Program March 11
The Chester County Narcotics Overdose Prevention and Education (NOPE) Task Force is scheduled to deliver a presentation to Avon Grove parents and community members on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at 6:30 p.m. in the Avon Grove High School Auditorium. Experts will explain facts regarding drug abuse, drug interaction, signs of substance abuse, parenting strategies, and where to get help. NOPE experts are scheduled to present to AGHS students during the day on March 9 and March 10, and to FSEMS students during the day on March 11. More information will be shared with students and parents soon regarding the daytime presentations. 
FSEMS Student/Faculty Basketball Fundraiser March 12
Fred S. Engle Middle School's Student/Faculty Basketball Fundraiser Game is scheduled Thursday, March 12, 2015. Tickets are only $3 if purchased in school or $4 at the door. A variety of themed baskets will be raffled, and they can be viewed in the school's audion on Monday, March 9. Basket raffle tickets are $.50 each or 12 for $5. Commemorative T-shirts are also available for $10. There will be lots of food, fun, and entertainment, so make plans to attend the most memorable night of the year. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and students must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. 
Indoor Showcase March 14 @ AGHS
The 6th Annual Avon Grove Indoor Showcase will be held at the Avon Grove HS Gymnasium on Saturday, March 14, starting at 12 p.m. Featuring Avon Grove's Gold and Maroon Color Guards and Percussion Ensemble, the show will host close to 40 indoor guard and percussion units from the tristate area. Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for senior citizens and college students (w/ID), $5 for K-12 students. Come out and support our AGHS performers!  
Board Approves 2015-2016 School Calendar
The Avon Grove School District Board of School Directors approved the 2015-2016 School Calendar at the Board meeting on February 12. Option #2 was approved, with modifications to the order of the cancellation/makeup days during Spring Break. The order of the makeup days is as follows: April 1; March 31, 30, 29; then June 15, 16, 17, etc.
