AGIS Students Chosen For 2016 Band Fest
Five sixth graders from Avon Grove Intermediate School were selected to perform in the 2016 Chester County Elementary Band Fest, scheduled for Wednesday, March 9 at Stetson Middle School in West Chester. The students will spend one full day in both large and small ensemble rehearsals preparing for the evening concert.  
AGHS Open House for 8th Grade Families and New Enrollees
Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, February 24, 2016.  The High School will be hosting their annual Open House for 8th grade families and new enrollees at 7:00 p.m.  This is a great opportunity to learn about the high school curriculum, programming, activities, and athletics.  More detailed information will follow in the coming weeks.  
January Students of the Month
Engle Middle School has named their January students of the month. One student from each team is selected who best exemplifies our school’s touchstone on a daily basis:
  • Honest with themselves and others
  • Gives their best in and out of the classroom and takes responsibility for his/her learning and behavior
  • Makes everyday positive by demonstrating respect for self, others, and the school through words and actions
  • Supports others by showing kindness and compassion· Provides service to school/community
 
Kindergarten Information Night February 17, 2016
If you are a parent of a new kindergarten student for 2016-2017, please join us on Wednesday, February 17th at 6 p.m. to receive information about the Avon Grove School District kindergarten half-day program. To be eligible for kindergarten for the 2016-2017 school year, students must turn 5-years-old on or before September 8, 2016. Parents will be free to tour through Penn London and the Kindergarten Square from 6 to 6:30 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., in the Cafeteria, we will present on Kindergarten Readiness. AGSD Pupil Services Hosts a Parent Engagement Night on 2/17

Avon Grove Pupil Services Department will be hosting a parent engagement night entitled: Preparing Children for Adulthood: Resources Plus. This topic will be focusing on the transition years and what families will need to do to prepare for post-21 years. Maryann Amici, from the IU, will present on this topic on February 17th from 6-7:30pm in the Fred. S. Engle Middle School library. Attendance is encouraged even if your child has not reached the transition years.

Cano Named Rotary Club February Student of the Month
Jennifer Cano has been named the Rotary Club Student of the Month for February. She is the daughter of Norma Gonzalez and Nestor Cano (deceased) of Mexico and goddaughter of Jorge Mercado and Viridiana of Landenberg. 
Hoffman Named February Lions Club Student of the Month
Ryan Hoffman has been named the Lions Club Student of the Month for February. He is the son of Scott and Michelle Hoffman of West Grove. 
Avon Grove School Board Delays Full Day Kindergarten
After months of careful review and discussion, last night the Avon Grove School Board, by a 4-4 vote, did not approve a district-wide full day kindergarten program. This action will effectively delay implementation for at least a year. Over the last six months the board and administration had been studying a full day kindergarten program, with an eye on implementing it in 2016-17 school year. 
PowerSchool Mobile App Update

The PowerSchool Mobile App has been experiencing connectivity interruptions. The full online version of PowerSchool is NOT affected, just the mobile app available on smart phones. PowerSchool LLC. was notified immediately regarding the service interruptions. Avon Grove just learned that the solution to the mobile app will be available the week of February 8, 2016. Parents and students should continue to use the full online version of PowerSchool available at this link

 
School Board of Directors Retreat Rescheduled for 2/20/16
The School Board Retreat has been rescheduled for Saturday, February 20, 2016.  The public session is scheduled from 9:45 - 12:45 PM. 
Kozel to Participate in PMEA Regional Orchestra Feb 27th
Recently, Avon Grove High School's Nathan Kozel participated in the PMEA District 12 Orchestra During the festival, Kozel auditioned and qualified for Regional Orchestra and will be representing Avon Grove High School during this festival which will take place at Council Rock North HS February 25-27th. 
FSEMS Student Performing at The Media Theater
Congratulations to Brayden Orpello-McCoy who will be performing as Jem Finch in The Media Theater production of To Kill a Mockingbird. Brayden has been involved in many play productions over the years, and he is very excited about his first professional role. 
Student Drawings on Display at the Brandywine River Museum
Drawings by 160 fifth grade students from Avon Grove Intermediate School are on display at the Brandywine River Museum of Art in Chadds Ford, PA, through the end of February. The artwork is inspired by the disappearing farmscapes that used to dominate the Avon Grove School District. Art students examined images of five contemporary and/or historic farms in the district and then created own expressions of the landscape using mixed, water-based media.
